A. Weaver was its author. For Mr. Weaver, the irresponsible Johnny, was a youth in Winnetka but a few years ago, and to know him then was to recognize him again in his new play. He is as sincere and frank in it as he was then. The comedy is a very cleverly drawn story of boarding house life in New York City as it relates to the affairs of the employees of Ginsburg's De- partment Store and draws into it characters well known to those who are constantly patronizing stores of that character. The situations which develop are not particularly unusual, but are well knit and the dialogue is decidedly clever. The character sketches of the various types are quite Inaugural Saturday Sept. 18th N Uf O79 LT BENNY MEROFF America's Most Versatile Orchestra Conductor 2 5 Nifty with Pepsters DE LUXE FIRST RUN Photo Plays Opening Saturday, September 18th MARKS BROTHERS' RANADA Why The MARKS BROS. Florence Johns makes a very real and interesting picture of the older sister who is forever giving up to her beauti- ful young sister. Eda Heineman, Har- lan Briggs, Katherine Wilson and Donald MacDonald are probably the best of the other plavers. There 1s much that is refreshing and interesting in this comedy and it is a great relief to have these various types properly pictured in view of the many burlesques which have been foisted from time to time. --Thespian. VILLAGE THEATRE Movie fans will have the opportunity of seeing two of the best pictures of the year at the Village theatre next week. They are "The Son of the Sheik," Valentino's last picture, and "Brown of Harvard,' also a late film. Vilma Banky, the "Hungarian Rhap- sody" of the screen, is once more ap- pearing opposite Rudolph Valentino in "The Son of the Sheik," his last photo- play, which comes to the Village theatre next Monday, Tuesday, Wed- nesday and Thursday, September 20, 21, 22 and 23. Under the direction of George Fitz- maurice, Miss Banky appears as Yas- min, a desert dancer who wins the love, then the hate of the young tribal chieftain. The story, crammed with romance and adventue, is said to af- ford Valentino and Miss Banky even greater emotional opportunities than they had in "The Eagle," the last pic- ture in which they appeared together. Their tremendous dual popularity in "The Eagle" prompted producer John W. Considine, Jr., to arrange with Samuel Goldwyn for Miss Banky to again appear with the star in "The Son of the Sheik." This will be the last showing of the Valentino film on the north shore, it is said. In addition there will be a Charlie Chase comedy, "Crazy Like a Fox," and a Pathe news reel. "Brown of Harvard" is a timely pic- ture that will fascinate everybody. In- terest in the doings of the younger generation is now centering particular- ly on the activities of college students.
