Carlson corporation. This great structure is designed, ac- cording to its builders, to conform in atmosphere to the homelike character of Evanston and the north shore. All of the larger apartments will contain real old-fasioned wood-burning fire- places. There are to be "cheery living rooms, spacious chambers where there is closet space for everybody, and most modern baths." Other strictly modern features are incinerators and mechan- ical refrigeration, kitchens said to be models of convenience, and maid ser- vice provided on an hourly basis. The new John Evans Apartment is of absolutely fireproof construction throughout, it is explained. Another feature tending to empha- size thé homelike atmosphere is found in the quarter acre squares between the two three-story wings of the build- ing. These spacious grounds will be taken up largely by formal gardens. Here's First Realty Transfer by Air Mail Twenty cents and air mail service brought a letter from Long Beach, Cal.,, to Paul Schroeder and company, on a real estate deal this week, in two nights and a day. "That's step- ping on the gas," he says. The letter was postmarked in the California postoffice at 5 p. m. September 21, and the Chicago postmark is 7 p. m, September 23. With distance thus eliminated, California becomes a mere suburb of Chicago, in the matter of making quick real estate deals, and this is said to be among the first of its kind in Wilmette.
