October 9, 1926 WINNETK A TALK 41 P. T. A. STARTS WORK Horace Mann Parent-Teachers Associ- ation Meets and Appoints Room Chairmen This Week Mrs. E. R. Parker, 174 Linden street, entertained the grade chairmen of the Horace Mann school, at her home, at a 'tea last week. Plans for the year were made, and a program of activities discussed. Mrs. George Fraser will be in charge of the Horace Mann program, and Mrs. Hugo Layer will be in charge of the Motion Picture Entertainment com- mittee. Mrs. A. J. Mitchell will assist Mrs. Layer. A unique plan was discussed whereby dancing classes will be formed in the grades, so that ballroom dancing will be taught in the school. Other public schools have organized such classes, and pronounce them a great success. Later in the fall, the Horace Mann chairmen plan to give a bazaar to raise money for the art and manual training funds. The committee to be in charge of this bazaar has been formed and will begin work at once to get plans in order. Appoint Chairmen Mrs. E. R. Parker, chairman of the P. T. A. of Horace Mann School, has chosen the following room chairmen: Miss Larsen's room, Mrs. Walter Olds; Miss Kern's room, Mrs. John Reilly; Miss Nethercott, Mrs. Albert Noyes; Miss Krenwinkel, Mrs. Clarence Ran- dall; Miss Sparks, Mrs. Hugo Layer; Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Vern Hopkins; Miss Olsen, Mrs. R. K. Rockwood; Mrs. Dean, Mrs. W. F. Lochridge; Miss Ducker, Mrs. Albert Long; Miss Juli- en, Mrs. Hubert Howard; Miss Young- quist, Mrs. A. J. Mitchell; Miss Dwyer, Mrs. Ives Walden; Miss Thompson, Mrs. W. B. Cormany; Miss Anderson, Mrs. Samuel Smart; Morning Kinder- garten, Mrs. Harold Wilder; After- noon, Mrs. Ryerson Gates. A bazaar will be held in the near fu- ture for the benefit of the training department at Horace Mann. | Ten new benches and several hundred | dollars worth of tools have been added | to the equipment this year. Miss Pressler makes an appeal for a gas plate to be used in the preserving and canning of fruits in the domestic sci- ence department. It will be much ap- preciated if anyone having a gas plate | to give away will communicate with | Miss Pressler. Many of the teachers and parents of | Horace Mann children were very eager | to organize a dancing class to be held | at the school. But Miss Carswell's | dancing class, usually held at Com- munity House, will be of necessity held at Horace Mann this winter, crowded out by the many activities of the Community Center, so parents are | asked to heartily support this class, | the usual Community House class. Mrs. Hugo Layer has been chair- man of a committee to secure a mov- ing picture machine for the Horace Mann school, to be used for educa- tional films during the week and for feature films every two weeks. | Mrs. William L. Ninabuck, 1092 | Cherry street, and Mrs. Carl Pfansthiel | of Ravinia presided at the tea tables vesterday afternoon at the reception given by the Chicago College club to open its 1926-27 season. The guests of honor were Mrs. Nathan William MacChesney of Evanston, Miss Grace | Kelley, Mrs. E. O. Griffenhagen, Mrs. | Robert S. DeGolyer, Mrs. John Gar- | field Jordan, and Mrs. F. F. Under- wood. --(-- Mr .and Mrs. Carroll C. Kendrick, 1303 Scott avenue, are expected to re- turn next Monday from Wyoming, | where they have been visiting on a | ranch.
