EVA KARON SCHUR riwear OWS ~ NORTH SHORE HOTEL 1605 CHICAGO AVENUE" EVANSTON --_--------rr | Murphy for Christmas. ANNOUNCES LECTURES Rev. James Austin Richards of Con- gregational Church to Talk on Gos- pel ---- BY THOMAS A. GOODWIN Casey and Finnegan were discussing what they should give their friend "Let's give him "There's a book," suggested Murphy. "he's no sense of that," replied Casey, got a book." The average individual, when urged by his pastor or Sunday school teach- er to read the Bible, thinks, with something of Casey's viewpoint, that there is no need of that, he has al- ready read it. He fails to realize the unlimited rewards that come to the earnest student of the Bible. The peo- ple who get the most joy out of a visit to the museum of art are those who have studied art; the people who most appreciate the concert are net those who have never been to one before, but those who go again and again, and pursue a serious study of music be- tween times. So, too, the joy of the Bible is not for the casual and super- ficial reader, but for those who come again and again to its pages, and who seek to learn all they can about the Bible so that they may better under- stand it. There is no limit to the help, the pleasure, the interest, and the truth which the reverent and earnest student finds in the Bible. Repeated inquiries at various times and in many localities have revealed that the most read Book in the Bible is the Gospel of John. It is this most helpful book which Rev. James Richards has chosen for the subject of his Tuesday morning lectures, Octo- ber 12 to November 16, at 10 o'clock, in the Neighborhood room of Com- munity House. The titles of his talks are as follows: October 12. The Author, his method, his purpose. Chapter XXI. October 19. The Preface, Jesus and Judaism. The Word, the Baptist, the New Birth. Chapters 1, 15, IIL October 26. The Universal Jesus. The Samaritan Woman, the Lord's Supper. Chapters WV, V, VL November 2. Darkness and Vision. Jesus the Light, the Shepherd, the Son. Chapters VII, vii, IX, X. November 9. Jesus our Victorious Life. Lazarus, the Anointing, the Foot- washing. Chapters XT XII, XL November 16. The Finished Work. The Death, the Resurrection, the Sec- ond Coming. Chapters XIV. XX. The significance of the subject mat- ter, together with the reverent scholar- ship and lucid style of the speaker, make this series of addresses an oppor: tunity all who possibly can should avail themselves of, and everybody is welcome. British Program Marks Inaugural of Music Season The home of Mrs. Truitt in Deer- field, TIl., was the setting for the first meeting of the North Shore Musical society this season. The presence of the Townsend String quartet as guest artists greatly added to the enjoyment of the pro- gram. This quartet composed of Wini- fred Townsend, first violin; Gertrude Early, second violin: Charlotte Polak, viola, and Lois Bichl, violincello gave a splendid demonstration of fine en- semble work. Following the progrant refreshments were served. Telephone Wilmette 3347 DR. FRANK B.
