On her way home Mrs. Atwood stopped in Des Moines, Ia., to visit old friends and relatives. Put Traffic Policeman at Hubbard Woods Corner The report of W. M. Peterson, Vil- lage chief of police to the Village Council at its meeting Tuesday eve- ning, shows 56 arrests were made for violation of speed and traffic rules dur- ing the month of September. Fifty-one of those arrested were found guilty and paid fines and costs; three paid costs only, the fines being suspended and two, juveniles, were placed on probation. There were ten other ar- rests during the month, for various causes. The report further shows that $4,846 worth of stolen property was re- covered; there were eleven automobile accidents; one death from a railroad accident and two stolen cars were re- covered. The department recovered for citizens swindled by bogus checks, $950. Chief Peterson also reported that a crossing man has been placed at Gage and Linden avenues, Hubbard Woods, to regulate traffic and general police duties, from 8:00 a. m. to 9:30 a. m. and 3:30 p. ni. to 6:30 p. m.
