32 WINNETKA TALK October 30, 1926 North Shore Women on Patroness List for Military Ball Plans Now Underway for Ball Given by Arden Shore Group By JEAN TEN BROECK Society is ever busy, especially at this season of the year when its activi- ties assume more comprehensive pro- portions. A large function inviting its interests and its efforts, and occurring on Friday evening, November 26, is the Military ball which the Chicago committee of the Arden Shore associ- ation will give. Arden Shore is another organization which through the years has become an integral part of the life here. It reflects the development of the shore. As the north shore has grown, so: has it expanded, until those who long have been residents of this vicinity feel that it has become one of the north shore's traditions. Mrs. Lloyda Smith Shaw is chair- man of the Chicagec committee, and those assisting her will be Mrs. Albert S. Gardner, who is chairman of boxes; Miss Sarane Otis, chairman of ar- rangements; Mrs. Herbert Nock, chair- man of tickets; Miss Dorothy Peacock, chairman of invitations; Miss Elaine Blackman, chairman of reservations; Miss Emily Otis, chairman of the Junior League group: Mrs. Richard Gambrill, chairman of music and en- tertainment; Mrs. George E. Van Hagen, Jr., chairman of advertising and: programs; Mrs. Albert Bruce Wegener, publicity. Miss Pauline Wolff, Miss Margaret Sinclair and Miss Jean Logan are co-chairmen for the debutante group. Case of Hubbard Woods, who will present their daughter, Miss Carolyn Frances Case, te society on December 11, from 3 until 6 o'clock, at their home, are plan- ning to give a dance for young people, friends of their daughter, on Decem- ber 22, at the Drake terrace. Miss Case has not decided on the list of debutantes to assist her when her formal presentation takes place. The Evanston branch of the Chicago Junior School for Boys near Elgin, is giving a bridge party Monday, Novem- ber 15, at the new Georgian hotel in Evanston at 2:15 o'clock in the after- noon. Mrs. S. E. Minor, Wilmette 2449, and Mrs. R. C. Millen, Wilmette 3399, are in charge of tickets for the 'affair. Recent Winnetka Brides Lewis-Smith Photo Mrs. Josiah Wheelwright The marriage of Miss Lois Nelson of Winnetka to Josiah Wheelwright of Boston and Cohasset, Mass., was an event of Saturday, October 16, in Christ church, Winnetka. A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Murry Nelson, 870 Sheridan road. Wilhite Mrs. D. J. Headford Miss Madge Tarrant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Tarrant of Winnetka, became Mrs. Douglas J. Headford on Saturday evening, Octo- ber 2. The bride's grandfather, Rich- ard Stephens of London, England, came for the wedding festivities. photo Junior League to Derive Benefit from Hockey Game The Junior League of Chicago is to derive the benefit of half the proceeds obtained from the ice-hockey game to be played between the Black Hawks of Chicago, and the Canadian champ- ionship team, at the Coliseum, Wed- nesday evening, November 17 Winnetka people may obtain their tickets in the village from Mrs. John L. Dole, Winnetka 2257, or from Mrs. Frederick W. Copeland, Winnetka 2174. Tickets are on sale, and the com- mittee feels that the public will be in- terested in knowing that the fifty per cent of the proceeds which goes to the Junior League will be divided atnong various charities. Given under the auspices of the American Hockey association, the game is in charge of the officers of the association who are Frederick Mc- Laughlin, president, Lucius Ordway, vice-president; John J. Mitchell, treasurer. Box-holders for the game include Russell Forgan, Huntington Henry, E. A. Cudahy, John J. Mitchell, Silas Strawn, Newton Perry, Allen Swift and John Winterbotham. Circle Meetings The Cherry Street circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Arthur Laser of 418 Provident avenue, Monday, No- vember 1, at 2, for a Hallowe'en party. Members are asked to come in hallow- e'en or hard times costumes, or pay a fine. Mrs. William C. Roth of 429 Provident avenue will act as assisting hostess. The Indian Hill circle met witli Mrs. Arthur Ryson, 188 Myrtle avenue, on October 13. Mrs. William Happ as- sisted Mrs. Ryson. The next meeting will be on November 19, at the home of Mrs. Grover M. Herman, 82 Essex road, with Mrs. Rose Reynolds assist- ing. This will be grab bag day. Marriage of Elsie Blatchford Society Event Miss Elsie Larned Blatchford, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Wickes Blatchford of 605 Arbor Vitae road, became the bride of Ludlow Seb- ring Fowler, son of Mrs. Thomas Powell Fowler of New York, Thurs- day, October 21, at 4:30 oclock. The ceremony took place in Christ church, the Rev. E. Ashley Gerhard officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. L. Blair Larned, brother of Mrs. Blatchford, 'who came on from New York with his wife and two daughters, Virginia and Betty, to attend the wedding. A reception at the bride's home followed the cere- mony. Miss Blatchford was dressed in a white velvet gown with long sleeves, rather high neck, and wore a tulle veil which hung from a coronet of pearls. Mrs. Albert G. Berry, Jr, (Marion Blatchford) attended her sister as matron of honor. She was gowned in rose and pink chiffon, with a pink felt hat trimmed with rose colored ribbon. The maid of honor, Miss Emily Scott, and the bridesmaids, Miss Edith Fair- banks, Mrs. William D. Pittman, Miss Elizabeth Jones, and Miss Pauline Rudolph also wore rose and pink chif- fon and pink hats, and carried pink flowers of different varieties. Betty and Virginia Larned, cousins of the bride, were dressed in flesh colored chiffons, and as flower girls, carried dainty little baskets of flowers. Powell Fowler, the groom's brother, acted as best man, while the list of ushers included Robert I. Crawford, III, of New York, Charles W. Don- ahoe of Seattle, Wash., John M. Den- nison, of New York, Townsend Martin of New York, Frank Blatchford, Jr. brother of the bride, and her brother- in-law, Albert G. Berry, Jr. The groom's mother and his four sisters, Miss Fowler, Mrs. Frank Pal- mer, Mrs. Albert Meurisse, and Mrs. Dunledy Millbank, with her hus- band, all of New York, came on for the wedding. Following a wedding trip abroad, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler will make their home in New York, Charity Ball Next Wednesday Attracts North Shore Society The Charity ball next Wednesday evening given by the Glencoe Center of the Infant Welfare Society of Chi- cago, will be a brilliant and fashionable event attracting a north shore follow- ing. The affair will be held in the Evanston Country club. A group of prominent Glencoe women is arranging for the ball which will offer not only the pleasure of dancing to the strains of Dick Ede's orchestra, but the op- portunity of playing cards to those who prefer this form of diversion to dancing. A delectable supper will be served later in the evening. Mrs, Francis Graham, chairman of the ticket committee, is assisted in her work by Mrs. Abel Davis, Mrs. Austin I. Wyman, Mrs. H. H. Belding, Mrs. J. H. Buechler, Mrs. Clarence Troup, Miss Marion Black, Miss Agnes Cor- nell, Mrs. S. Pirie Carson, Mrs. Lionel Frank, Mrs. Franklin deBeers. OW) --- Plan Benefit Performance for Stevenson Memorial The Sarah Hackett Stevenson Me- morial, a temporary home for women with children in need of assistance, will be the beneficiary of a performance of "Princess Flavia" Monday evening, November 1. The Stevenson Memori- al has bought out the Four Cohans' theater for that time. The proceeds will help defray some of the expense of the home during the coming winter and the many extra calls that cold weather always brings. Tickets may be procured from Miss Martha J. Moe, University 1342, from Marshall Field and company, and from Lyon and Healy. Mrs. Victor R. Clark is chairman for the affair and the following are mem- bers of the committee: Mrs. E. J. Catholic League Gives Yearly Benefit Saturday The card party to be given by the North Shore Catholic Woman's league for the benefit of its social service de- partment, will be held at the Orrington hotel, Saturday, November 6, at 2 o'clock. Tickets may be had from Mrs. William Snvder, telephone Glencoe 107. Mrs. N. P. Anderson of Evanston is general chairman of the card party, the only benefit given during the year for the social service department of the league.
