Telephone 13 CHICAGO 8 NORTHWESTERN RY, VOTE TUESDAY! | Democracy fails when a [vote is lost, whether through | ance, carelessness, or fraud. | As a result of practical experience lat the polls during the April primary, [active members of civic organizations [have come to see a serious need for schools in loczl communities for the training of judges and clerks of elec- tion, also for watchers. Entirely aside from those precincts in Chicago where fraud was perpetrated there were scores of mistakes made simply through the inexperience and lack of training of judges and clerks. Plans for such schools are being made by a joint com- mittee representing the City club, Union League club, Woman's City club, and League of Women Voters. citizen's ignor- VOTE NEXT TUESDAY! "The rock upon which this nation was founded is the principle of self- government. Because this is true, loyal American citizens, whatever their political faith may be, should join in the effort to get out the vote at every election in order that decisions which concern the welfare of town, county, state, or nation shall be made, not by a minority of the citizens, but by the majority." VOTE NEXT TUESDAY! There are at least three ways of lay- ing unclean hands on the ballot box; one is by casting a thoughtless, unin- telligent vote, one is by voting for per- sonal interests and one is by staying at home. Vote Tuesday! PLAN MINSTRELS The North Shore Glee club will give a minstrel show at the Winnetka Wo- man's club, corner Oak and Maple, Thursday evening, November 4, at 8:30. Society Will Hear La Bori in First Chicago Recital North shore society is looking for- ward to the return of Senorita Lucre- zia Bori, the fascinating young Span ish prima donna of the Metropolitan Opera company and for several seas- ons a reigning favorite at Ravinia. I.a Bori will give her first Chicago recital when she shares the program with Nikolai Orloff, the brilliant Rus- sian pianist, at the opening of the Kinsolving musical mornings, Tues- day, November 9, in the crystal ball- room of the Blackstone. Ravinia has had many favorites, and among the most favored is Bori, who seems to be invested with the glamor of her native Valencia. Her gay and colorful gowns, her charm of manner, her exquisite voice, but, above all, her cooking--for she is a past mistress at preparing a tor- tilla, have long been the talk of the north shore from Evanston to Lake Forest. Senorita Bori, whose Fiora in "I'Amore dei Tre Re" and Mimi in "La Boheme" are never-to-be-for- gotten memories among opera goers, is the daughter of a Spanish military family of the old regime. Her father was a colonel of artillery, her mother, a donna of high literary and musical attainments. MAKES LONGEST SHOT Tony Rengel, popular pro at the Glen Acres Golf club, hit the single longest drive in the open division of the Chicago Tribune's second annual golf driving contest held recently at Lincoln Park. Pat McDonald, Jr. youthful pro of the Ruth Lake Coun- try club, won the contest with three shots averaging 291 2-3 yards. Twenty-two years of suc- cessful professional service." Personaily recommended by Chas. A. Stevens of Chicago and a host of others whom we have served on the north shore. We personally attend all calls, rendering the most careful, courteous and con- scientious service. Mrs. Lewis attends to all ladies' and children's calls.
