November 20, 1926 WINNETKA TALK ORCHESTRA PLEASES Little Symphony Players in Second Concert Pleases Audience With Pre- cise and Spirited Performance BY JANE ARNT The second of the concerts by the Little Symphcny Orchestra last Mon- day evening at New Trier high school brought out the usual capacity attend- ance, in spite of very inclement wea- ther. The orchestra, conducted by George Dasch, was in especially good form, considering this was its second appearance since it was entirely re- organized. Attacks for the most part were precise and spirited, and the au- dience showed by its enthusiastic ap- plause that it was more than pleased with the work. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Ruy Blas" was enjoyed for its smoothness and strength. In the four movements from Dvorak's symphony No. 5 "From the New World," the orchestra demon- strated its technical skill in the tumul- tuous passages, and its control of rich, pure tone in the melody parts such as are in the second movement, "Largo." Lillian Poenisch, clarinetist, and Al- fred Quensel, flutist, showed good en- semble in "Tarantelle" by Saint-Saens. As an encore they played "Encore," which was written by Victor Herbert especially to follow "Tarantelle." Saint-Saens' Prelude to "Le Deluge" was very lovely, with a violin obbli- gato played by Herman Felber, Jr, and the orchestra was obliged to re- peat it. A dance of Nymphs and Satyrs, from "Amor und Psyche," by Georg Schu- mann, was next played in an appre- ciative manner that brought out its clear, light charm. Theodore Du Moulin, in his violin- cello obbligato in "Scene Religieuse" from the Suite, "Les Erinnyes" by Massenet caught sympathetically its touch of. the spiritual, and in response to the burst of applause he repeated the second half--the plaintive, haunt- ing "Elegie." The last number was Moszkowski's "Malaguena" from the Opera, "Boab- dil," a fascinating bit of rhythm and brilliance, which the Little Symphony played to perfection. The shelter house was erected this week, and as soon as the temperature drops a trifle more, the park will be flooded and the sport will be on. The park was leveled and graded for holding the water, last year. This is a Hubbard Woods proposition, the maintainance expense being paid by subscription. A large number of small sub- scriptions needed to complete the fund for the WINNETKA MEMORIAL. \ Come in and See Our exclusively Individual suit patterns for the coming season have been received and we shall be glad to show you the really new materials with their original designs and attractive colorings any time you can come. HUPMOBILE SIX, Power As Smooth As Electricity Power impulses in the Hupmobile Six are delivered with an electric smoothness and regularity that speak volumes for the fine engineering of the car. To help insure this constant flow of power, Hup- mobile ~-~chines its cylinder heads to precise ten- thous: >f an inch limits. Uniform compression and exceptional power smoothness are the results of this expensive and unusual manufacturing process. From the beginning to the end of engine and chassis manufacture, Hupmobile insists on such strict adherence to quality standards--and willingly pays 10% more because it knows its owners get far more in performance, low costs and long life. These are some of the many reasons why you may expect not only brilliant and sustained performance from the Hupmobile Six, but a pronounced economy of maintenance as well.
