BY OBSERVER Tomorrow evening at 8 p. m. many | people of the township will gather in the New Trier high school auditorium to witness the first play of the season to be given by the New Trier Dramatic club. And when these people go back to their respective homes, they will be happy, and in their eyes there will be reflected a bit of the gaiety and ad- venture that the play gave to them. That is the sort of play that "Captain Applejack" is. It is a thrilling action play that has been dipped in a bucket of humor and brought up dripping with laughter. And it is an ambitious play for a high school group to attempt to give, for the roles are difficult and call for no small spark of ability. There is hard- iy a part that does not call for two distinct characterizations, and some call for three. And anyone who has had stage experience will agree that it is no easy task to step from one char- acterization to another within the course of an evening. Now a word or two should be said about the people who carry most of the burden of the play on their shoulders. The title role, that of Ambrose Ap- plejohn, who for a time becomes the pirate, Captain Applejack, is played by Edward Bauman of Winnetka. He has Mrs. Seymour Morris, 801 Bryant avenue, is in charge of reservations for the thirtieth annual banquet to be held Monday evening, November 22, at the Blackstone hotel to which the Society of Mayflower Descendants has issued invitations.
