The ceremony took the form of a dramati- zation of the conflict of war with civili- zation. The personifications of Amer- ica, England, Germany, Italy, France and Belgium, offered their gifts to civ- ilizations, and showed how these gifts may be utterly wiped out by war. The boys of the class then told what movements are now on foot in the world to educate people away from war. At the close of the exercises there was silent prayer, while taps were blown. Country Day Girls' Hockey Team Beats Faulkner 13-0 On Saturday of last week the Girls' hockey team of the North Shore Coun- try Day school defeated the Faulkner school 13 to 0. The game was umpired by the captain of the All Chicago hockey team, who was so favorably impressed with the quality of the girls' playing that she asked for a game later between the North Shore girls and the All-Chicago team. Olive Easton and Emily Nell Simp- son, accompanied by their Camp Fire group leader, Mrs. Doris Eisenbrand, attended the ceremonial at the Palmer house Tuesday morning at which 1,500 girls assembled to make Prin- cess Ileana a Camp Fire Girl of America. ---- A tulip tree growing in Wabash Val- ley, Illinois, measures 190 feet in height and has a girth of twenty-three feet at a point three feet above the swell of the roots. Itwo brief vacations within Pupils to Enjoy Brief Vacations Over Thanksgiving North Shore schools will indulge in the next two weeks. On Friday of this week all high schools will be closed so that the teachers may attend a meeting of the Illinois State High school associa- tion, which will be held at the Uni- - versity of Illinois, at Urbana. Two members of the New Trier High school faculty will be speakers on the pro- gram which will include discussions of many phases of high school work. Prof. W. A. Snyder will speak on the "Ex- periment of teaching Bookkeeping in a single period" while H. H. Herron will talk on some phase of mathema- tics. This meeting is an annual event and offers an excellent opportunity for the teachers to hear from other teach- ers about methods used in teaching their various subjects. The second vacation period will oc- cur when all of the schools will be closed during the regular Thanksgiv- ing vacation, which comes on Thurs- day and Friday of next week. WANT NEW STREET NAME A petition has been received by the Winnetka Village council asking that the name of Linden street from Elm to Oak streets, be changed to Center street. The petition was signed by Carlton Prouty and Rapp Brothers, the only owners of private property in the block. It was referred Tuesday eve- ning to the streets, drainage and for- estry committee. At the first meeting of the National Electric Light Association at Chicago in 1885, Elgin, Dixon and Rockford were cited as having the most brilliant- ly lighted streets in the country.
