AAJ « 85 aw December 4, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 29 "WITCH OF SALEM" FEATURE AT OPERA Cadman's American Opera to be in English Wednesday Eve- ning, December 8 The fifth week of the Civic Opera season at the Chicago Auditorium will be made notable by the world premiere of Charles Wakefield Cadman's Amer- ican opera, "The Witch of Salem," which will be sung in English Wed- nesday evening, December 8. The week maintains the high standard set by the first four weeks, for it will bring first hearings this season of several favorite operas, with repetitions of the most popular performanees 'given earlier this year. It will start full-tilt next Monday evening with a presenta- tion of "Le Cena Delle Beffe" ("The Jest"), the spectacular opera which aroused a storm of enthusiasm when it was presented at the end of the third week. Saturday matinee, December 4, will bring a repeat performance of "La Boheme," with Mason, Pavloska, Cor- tis, Montesante, Pelese and Lazzari; Polacco conducting. Saturday evening, December 4, "The Daughter of the Regiment" will be re- peated at popular prices, with Toti Dal Monte, Charles Hackett, Edouard Cot- reuil : Frank St. Leger conducting, fol- lowed . by Ballet Divertissements with Serge Oukrainsky and Mlles. Friday evening the Auditorium will be dark, as the company will be in Milwaukee for a performance of "Tris- tan and Isolde."
