December 11, 1926 WINNETKA TALK Capt. Moon Baker and Bob Johnson Placed on All-U. S. Elevens The fame of a number of Northwes- tern grid stars who helped the Purple to their first conference championship this fall has traveled far and wide. Capt. Moon Baker, Bob Johnson and others have been selected on the myth- ical all-star elevens of the football experts. Capt. Moon Baker, who was the unanimous choice of all the experts for a position on the All-Conference and All-Western teams, won the highest recognition given in football, a place on Grantland Rice's All-American team in Collier's magazine. Grantland Rice placed Baker at half back on his team, and in doing so handed "Moon" the compliment of be- ing one of the greatest football players in the country. Bob Johnson was another North- western star to receive national recog- nition. Bob was placed on practically all the All-Conference and All-Western teams while a number of well known experts placed him on their All-Amer- ican teams. Billy Evans selected: Johnson as tackle on his All-American team while Red Grange also placed him on his eleven. Both of these ex- perts left Baker off their teams. The Chicago Daily News placed both Baker and Johnson on its All-American team. Mr. Rice also honored Leland (Tiny) Lewis in stating that Lewis was on a par with two other greatest fullbacks of the country. Any of the three could have been placed on the first team, he said. Joesting of Minnesota was given the position. Last Sunday Walter Eckersall of the Tribune placed Baker and Johnson on his first All-Western team. Lewis was placed on the second team and Dart and Fisher on the third. Other Northwestern players to re- ceive recognition by the experts this fall were Vic Gustafson, captain elect of the Wildcats; Otto Siebenmann, guard; Ruddy Schuler, tackle; Paul Griffith, halfback; Wyman, center and Levison, halfback. This is the first year in many seasons that Northwestern has had such a big representation on the All-Star teams. Several years ago it was seldom that a Purple football player was given a place by the writers.
