Sp December 11, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 43 Sir Thos. Lipton Honorary Member of Vista del Lago Sir Thomas Lipton, famous English sportsman, is the first honorary mem- ber of Vista del Lago, the new club now under construction on the lake shore between Kenilworth and Wil- mette. In the letter to Commodore J. Stuart Blackton, chairman of the Vista del Lago board, the donor of the inter- nationally celebrated Lipton Cup, an- nounces his pleasure in becoming a member of the new North Shore club and indicates that he may visit here in the not distant future. Commodore Blackton has known Sir Thomas for many years and their friendship was cemented during the Lipton Cup races, when Mr. Blackton, as commodore of the Atlantic Yacht club, Seagate, I.. I., N. Y., entertained the titled Englishman as house guest. Commodore Blackton's original let- ter to Sir Thomas was misaddressed and returned from England. Sir Thomas's comment, upon finally receiv- ing the letter, is typical. It follows: Dear Commodore : Your very kind letter of the 20th of September has only just reached me owing to the delay caused through the postal authorities' lack of initiative. If you had addressed the envelope "Lip- ton, England," "Lipton, London," or simply "Lipton" it would have found me. I note with interest the project in which you are engaged and am greatly obliged to you for the suggestion that I should become an honorary member. This I am very pleased to agree to and hope your plans will materialize to your satisfaction and that the club will prove a big success.
