On Thursday, Santa Claus will come to collect the toys the children have been preparing for him in their Santa Clau} toy shop. The toys will be on exhi- bition during the party and then be packed up and sent off to various families of settlement houses in Chi- cago, to whom the school is helping Santa Claus to give a Christmas. The Santa Claus party will take place in the boys' gym at 11 o'clock on Thursday. The older boys will carry in the Yule log and place it beside the tree. Santa will arrive and be welcomed by games and dances in which all will join, the kindergarten doing a dance with the faculty, the first grade with the seniors and so on. The spiritual and religious side of Christmas will be observed on Friday at 4 o'clock, candle lighting time, when the girls' gym will be decked with smilax, pine boughs, candles and a simple tree. The eighth grade will present a play of the Nativity which they have written and rehearsed in their English classes. It will be largely a musical service with the musical re- sponses to the play sung by the en- tire school and by the girls' carol choir which has been practicing special Christmas music. Christian Science Churches "God the Only Cause and Creator" was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sunday, December 5. The Golden Text was from Isaiah 37:16, "O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth." Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: "But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Ye are my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and be- sides me there is no saviour" (Isaiah 43:1, 10, 11). The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no ef- fect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." (p. 207).
