Under the direction of the club's committee which is in charge of the social gatherings, there will be a Christmas tree, loaded with presents, Santa Claus will be on hand to distrib- ute gifts to the fifty or more young- sters, games will be played, and re- freshments served. Following the children's party, at 10 o'clock there will be dancing for the members of the club. Although the date has not been set definitely, the annual Bobbie Burns dinner given by the club will be held at Community House some time the first part of January. A better understanding of Camp Fire benefits and methods should result in its hearty endorsement by every father and mother, and es- pecially by those who are. rearing young girls. Camp Fire has for its objects the helping of young girls in three gen- eral ways: : 1. Character-building by suggestion and advice. 2 Practical womanhood. 3. Assistance to overcome defects in character or habits. These objects are obtained by a combination of work and play, so in- genious and yet so practical that it is endorsed throughout the country by the highest authorities on civics, edu- cation and religion. The system is based on a study of girlish nature-- her craving for activity, her liking for pageantry, symbolism and mystery. It is made so interesting that Camp Fire Girls go through to the end if a reason- able amount of guidance is given. Strength of character in girls was never more important than in times like these. Parents realize, the re- sponsibility but can only help their children from one side--the side of the home. The influences from other sides often over-balance the home n- fluence, and may tend to the worse or to the better. Someone has said that a man's life is controlled by emotionalized intel- lect; but that a woman's life is con- trolled by. intellectualized emotion. Camp Fire appeals to a girl's better emotions. Community House is the headquar- ters of the Camp Fire Girls of Win- netka. There are a number of "groups," of about a dozen girls each, going forward ugder the guidance of a guardian. With a better understand- ing by parents of the benefits of Camp Fire, many more girls should join. The cost is $1 per year. More Camp Fire guardians are also needed in Winnetka. 'There could not be a greater service rendered to com- ing womanhood or a greater satisfac- tion in results. Guardians are not necessarily former Camp Fire Girls. Ability to lead and to advise girls eleven to fifteen yars of age is the most important requirement. Love of out-of-door life and nature is a help as the Guardian joins with the girls im their play as well as their work. Some of the most remarkably good results with Winnetka girls are on record.
