"JUDITH" IN AMERICAN PREMIERE AT CHICAGO Mary Garden to Sing Title Role in Piece January 17; Opera Season in Final weeks The repertoire for the last two weeks of the Civic Opera at the Chicago Auditorium, which will bring the sea- son to a close, has been announced. Starting off with the long-promised American premiere of "Judith," which is the most eagerly awaited operatc novelty that America has been promis- ed in many years, the fortnight will contain repetitions of "Don Giovanni" and other great successes of the earlier weeks, and single performances of "Madame Butterfly," "Faust," "Gianni Schicchi," "Hansel and Gretel," "Boris Godunoff" and "I'he Masked Ball." Saturday night "Tiefland" will be re- peated at popular prices, in English, with the same cast that introduced it to the repertoire--Elsa Alsen, Forrest Lamont and Giacomo Rimini; Weber conducting. Sunday matinee, January 16, the sea- son's last performance of "The Jewess" will be given, with Rosa Raisa, Eide Norena, Charles Marshall, Alexander Kipnis, Jose Mojica; Serge Oukrainsky and ballet; Weber conducting. The opera will be followed by the ballet in "The Elements"; Frank St. Leger conducting. Kurenka in Debut Tuesday evening the famous Russian coloratura soprano, Maria Kurenka, will make her debut with the company in "The Barber of Seville" with Maria Claessens, Charles Hackett, Richard Bonelli, Virgilio Lazzari and Vittorio Trevisan: Moranzoni conducting.
