Dated Winnetka, BOARD OF LOCAL IMPROVE- MENTS OF THE VILLAGE OF WINNETKA. By JOHN 8S. MILLER, President. FREDERICK DICKINSON, Illinois, January 22nd, Village Attorney. Windows, Awnings, Glazed Walls Give the Effect of an Outdoor Court Representing a Spanish patio, the ballroom of the new Georgian hotel, Evanston, achieves the effect through appropriate furnishings and its loca- tion. In the bungalow on the top of the hotel, the ballroom has windows on all sides which help in making the scene of the room an outdoor court. The glazed walls of the room ap- proximate in color the light exteriors of Spanish dwellings. The lower four feet of the walls harmonize with the Spanish note by the use of small Spanish figures arranged in squares. The sunny atmosphere peculiar to the style which the room represents is augmented by the use of ligk* striped canopies over the entrances and win- dows and on the benches. Subdued orange and red stripe the awnings over the windows and doors while a blue, green and yellow combination is used to upholster the benches. The benches line all the walls. The orchestra's terrace in the north- west corner of the ballroom is covered with a large awning. In the back of the tent is a colonnade which suppos- edly looks out toward the sky. The ei- nade. Spanish spears support the awnings. The entrances to the room take the form of doors in exterior aspect. The effect of a heavy stone casing sur- rounding the opening is accomplished by painted, ornamental celotex. On the "keystone" of each entrance is the coat of arms of the Georgian. Large mirrors, here and there on the walls, enrich the room. Lighting fix- are on and dark sky, light stars, and moon appear "outside" of the colon- tures are beautiful crystal chandeliers. A checkroom is conveniently located fect is accomplished when the lights to the side of the main entrance. A kitchen immediately off the ballroom provides service for dinner dances or light refreshments. Panorama of Lake, Trees Seen from Georgian Roof The Georgian hotel, one of the high- est buildings in Evanston, affords a remarkable view of the lake front and surrounding territory when observed from the roof. Stretching out in a beautful panorama may be seen the winding beach line with it many piers, with the Municipal pier, the Wrigley building, the Tribune tower and the taller buildings of the loop easily seen on clear days. Looking northward one can see the Gross Point lighthouse, University hall, Patten gymnasium, the First Methodist church and other of Evanston's beau- tiful structures. Sheridan road with its twists and turns can be followed for miles up the shore. . From the roof of the Georgian, Fv- anston is a city of trees. COMMISSARY SERVICE The Georgian hotel maintains a com- missary for its guests from which cooked or uncooked foods may be ob- tained at a minimum price. The management also provides a catering service to undertake the preparation and serving of luncheons or dinners. Mrs. Carl Keith, 310 Warwick road, will return to Kenilworth on Saturday from a week's visit with her sister, Miss Bessie Alling of New York. A ae x
