nw LA January 29, 1927 WINNETKA TALK : 47 Scouts to Engage in Inter-Troop Contests An inter-troop contest between rep- resentatives from Scout troops of Ev- anston, Wilmette,. Kenilworth and Glencoe, will be held at the Kenilworth community gymnasium at 7:30 Friday night, January 28. The meet will be a preliminary meeting, according to Scoutmaster Bob Townley of Kenil- worth, and will not represent any un- usual show of Scout efficiency. It will be mainly directed toward finding out exactly what the boys can do and what is needed to pat them into first class form. Contests to follow at a later date will be directed toward a more earnest competition. The events are listed as follows: Event 1, signaling and semaphore--one team will be entered from each troop; Event 2, Fire by friction--one team of three boys from each troop; Event 3, O'Grady drill--team of eight boys, the leader being a Scout; Event 4, Knot- tying--one team of five Scouts from each troop; Event 5, Relay race be- tween Scout teams from all troops. Day School Enjoys Anaual Vaudeville, Dance Event The annual vaudeville and executive committee dance was given in the girls' gymnasium of North Shore Coun- try Day school Friday evening of this week. The entertainment for the first hour was under the auspices of the Dramatic club and given by represen- tative talent from the pupils and fac- ulty. Dancing followed for the re- mainder of the evening. Stage Bazaar in April Horace Mann school is to have a bazaar this year on Wednesday, April 6. It will be worked out as a street fair by the social science department. Most of the goods on sale will be done entirely by the children, but there is to be a parents' booth also. There will be movies, a puppet show, and Miss Krenwinkle's fifth grade room will give a play. A hot dog stand and a choco- late shop will be added attractions. HOLD SEWING SESSION The sewing or work committee of the Woman's society of the Winnetka Congregational church met at Com- munity House, Wednesday, January 26, for an all-day session in preparation for the sewing to be done by the so- ciety, Wednesday February 2. Mrs. Arlan W. Converse of 396 Hawthorne lane is general chairman of this com- mittee, and Mrs. Hugh B. McKenzie of 402 Hawthorne lane is associate chairman. Each member brings a box luncheon. Mrs. G. H. Beard of 796 Center street, Winnetka, left Winnetka, Sat- urday, January 22, after spending Christmas and the holidays here in the village.
