For some time the pupils have been studying about the Vikings. In con- nection with their regular class work and as an outgrowth of their study of the life of these ancient people, they constructed a model of one of the Viking feast halls. This was placed upon display in the assembly hall while the children told the rest of the school, stories about the sea-rovers, their his- tory and their habits. The miniature hall was made entire- [ly out of wood, cut and hacked to rc semble the hewn logs of which the original buildings were built. Because the Vikings covered their buildings with tar, the model was painted black and the cracks calked in just the same manner. On the inside and front of and post had carved upon it, designs of serpents and figures of various kinds. The floor was of dirt and upon it were arranged the tables, benches and open fires, ready in every respect for the home-coming of the masters of the feast. Even the shields and spears, made of old kid gloves and slate, hung in their places, while on the walls were arranged tap- estries and pictures of bright colors. All of the children report a most en- joyable and instructive program. First Scandinavian Evangelical 886 Elm Street, Winnetka Pastor, Rev. A. E. Rohrbach 910 Elm Street.
