Life's" Orange and Grapefruit Grove, Davenport, Florida Like writing diary down here. So many things to write, besides gives me diver- sion from other activities. Started day with glass of orange juice. A tonic fit for the Gods. Another summer-like day. Most remarkable weather. Would' nt miss it for a fortune. Mrs. Life says her health so much better that she feels like her real self. We play bridge most every evening. Retired after partaking of glass orange juice. Great guns, but I feel fine today. Played 18 holes and had best score since I came to Davenport. Made an 86. Know now that I CAN play golf. Owe it to this course. Many guests from Inn on links. All agree it's finest in Florida. And I'm with them. Heard wonderful concert from New York over radio this evening. More guests arriving every day. Inn almost filled to capacity. Finest set of people I have ever met. Jan. 28. Jan. 29. Jan. 30. The Diary After one of those make-you-feel-fine breakfasts, met couple from Wisconsin. Fine folks. He is good golfer and a Scotchman. Says Holly Hill course is Scotchman's course, asked why, he said, because not much chance to lose goif balls. Journeyed in afternoon to Orlando. Beautiful city, but the hills around Davenport have the biggest lure. Fine, paved highways going everywhere. Visited one of Florida's largest cypress saw mills at Loughman, six miles from Davenport. Found complete rest and peace on Inn veranda after supper. Chatted with my Scotch friend. He is good company. Two rounds on the links with my Scotch friend. He is splendid player, but beat him two strokes with on 87. Lady and gentleman guests had competitive contest on shuffleboard in afternoon. The ladies won the grand prize. Very in- teresting affair. Drew quite a crowd. Arranging contest on golf course between ladies and gentlemen for next week. More lady golfers here than last year. Attended concert this evening at Methodist Church. Enjoyed it very much. Attended special services at church. Had minister from neighboring town, who delivered splendid sermon. Enjoy the homey atmosphere of this little church. Good congregation. Motored through groves after dinner. Visited Holly Hill Nursery. Wonderful sight. Thousands of Nature's gifts. No wonder they say Florida is land of flowers. Drove to big hill overlooking lake where guest at Inn is planning a handsome home. Beautiful location. Jan. 31. Feb. Invited to new bowling green at golf course. Brother George, C. F., their wives and Mrs. Life joined us and all were initiated into a most fascinating game called lawn bowling. Have beau- tiful, regulation green, level and grassed like golf green. The ladies were very enthusiastic about bowling. The gentle- men were as much, if not more. Takes great skill to roll bowl ball close to "jack."" Told folks at Inn about bowl- ing. All want to play the game. Had enjoyable game shuffleboard under elec- tric lights after supper. Regular June nights. Old Sol keeps on the job. Grapefruit and orange juice started the day right. More guests arriving. Good crowd here. Everybody sociable. Have many good games of bridge. Golf course, shuffle- board, bowling green, putting green and croquet court kept busy. Fishing par- ties almost every day. Motor trips af- ford great enjoyment. Attended new Florida Theatre in nearby town. Have $20,000 pipe organ. Reminded me of movie theatres in Chicago.
