WINNETKA TALK February 12, 1927 Glencoe Home Bargain Owner leaving town and must sell at once this exceptionally attractive home, only two blocks from steam and electric stations, facing large parks on two sides. This home was built for the present owner three years ago. It is of brick on hollow tile construction, with slate roof; copper gutters, downspouts and weatherstrips throughout. Only the best in materials and workmanship were used. Steel construction runs clear up to the attic. The first floor has large living room, overlooking the park; dining room with Colonial cupboards; and kitchen equipped with electric refrigeration. On the second floor is a large master bedroom, with French doors opening to a large sun or sleeping porch. There are two other very good bedrooms on this floor, also large tiled and beau- tifully appointed bath. The windif staircase extends uninterruptedly from the first to the third floor, which has two very fine bedrooms and bath. The heat is hot water, with Hardinge Oil Burner and outside tank. A 1-car garage is attached. This property is clear and owner will accept $10,000 cash and arrange terms to suit for the balance. He wants action, and has given us a price of $35,000, much below replacement cost, to move it quickly. This is a real bargain for someone who will appreciate the finer points of construction and appointments. For appointment to inspect phone 899 LINDEN AVE. It will be of stucco on concrete blocks, with copper-clad roof. Mr. Hillner, also, is building for a home. Plan Other Homes Negotiations have practically been closed for another residence on the lot directly west of the Hillner site and on which it is expected work will be begun within thirty days. Directly west of this lot is the new shingle house completed some time ago and west of it are three vacant lots, on two of which, residences are to be erected this spring, through the Johansen and company's service. Sim- ilar development of the third lot is under negotiation, Mr. Johansen re- ports. Next west, is a two story brick house, just being completed, and west | of it is a new stucco residence in the [$15,000 class, now under construction for Benson Landon, Jr., for a home. | Johansen and company service also was rendered on this house. West of that is one lot, the only one in the {block on which buildings are not now under way, or on which building oper- | ations are arranged for, within the next few weeks. Kenilworth Building Active | The building boom of this section has also extended over the line into the Kenilworth area, where, on Cum- mings avenue, directly south of where the Hillner residence is to be erected, work is to be started within the next week or ten days on a six-room Span- ish style house for Carl B. Altman, of Chicago. This house will be of stucco, on concrete block and will have an at- tached fire-proof garage. Its cost also will be around $14,000 on which financ- ling and building service will be ren- dered by Johansen and company. Tt was only last spring that this sec- | tion, lying between Winnetka avenue | and the Kenilworth limits, was taken into the Winnetka limits. With its annexation was assured paving and all other necessary improvements, which at once started building activities. Last summer and fall witnessed a start and preliminary arrangements | which have led. up to the great ac- tivities outlined' in the foregoing and which is said to be only a portion of what is to be done throughout this section this year. The Johansen company has been ex- clusive agents for the owner, Roland D. Whitman, whose agreement with Charles Joy, the original owner, re- garding development and restrictions, have been carefully guarded by Mr. Whitman and his associates, to the end that the buildings now going in represent the type which corresponds and features this entire section of the north shore. Mrs. Frank R. Greene of 776 Pros- pect avenue, Winnetka, has returned form Monticello, Ill, where she spent a few days. i Mrs. Arthur B. Adair, 320 Melrose avenue, Kenilworth, is expected home on February 13, after spending five weeks in California.
