[ secured an application, filled it out and took it over to Mrs. Couterie to sign. At sight of the paper and the pen, gloom settled on the occupants of the bare little kitchen. The old grand- mother who spoke only a little English stood in the corner wringing her hands and crying, 'Please Miss, Nurse, no op- eration, no operation!" I explained to the mother that the best doctors would look after her baby and she realized whatever they did would be done to help Joe. Joseph went to the hospital for the examination. Now a nurse goes to Joe's home every Wed- nesday and exercises his arms and legs. Joe's mother came rushing into the clinic the other day with joy in her face and said, "The nurse says it ain't nothing bad and my Joey's going to walk just like other children!" Those Dolarco Twins Rosetti and Tonetti Dolarco are twins whom the nurse described when they first came to the station as "thin, under-nourished, both little tyrants, and in a fair way to start life all wrong by losing their natural food." The nurse laid out a proper schedule for the babies but when she went to see them, the husband ordered the nurse to leave because he was sure it would kill the babies to let them cry. By force of persuasion she was able to gain permission from the disturbed father to give Infant Welfare a trial on condition she would not come again unless sent for. Within a week Mrs. Dolarco appeared at the station with the twins all smiles to report that they made life miserable with their cries for two days, but had then accepted the situation, taken food and sleep at reg- ular intervals and peace had settled down on the household. All the regular supporters of this work are urged to send in their pledges this week so that the Winnetka sta- tion may continue.
