A heen February 19, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 13 Day School Sees Movie on Creation of Water Power On Wednesday and Thursday of last week more of the films made by the Stone and Webster corporation of En- gineers were shown at 'the morning exercises of the North Shore Country Day school. The pictures depict the importance of water power as a national asset and also show the harnessing of one of the western rivers for electric power. The pictures were very interesting, particularly the construction scenes, showing by some novel diagrams how the water is put over a 1,100 foot drop by building two large tunnels on the side of a cliff. The water dropping such a distance is able to generate 60,000 horsepower in the power house located at the foot of the cliff. They also showed some interesting scenes of the little railroad constructed to bring food and materials to the construction camp at the base of the hill. Scenes of the building of the power house were also shown. These included the installation of a vertical turbine generator, After these, came scenes of the workmen and the camp and the formal opening of the new unit. By opening a small valve, a generation of 60,000 horsepower is started. This plant was a part of a system for furnishing San Francisco with power. CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS Mrs. C. IL.
