Monday, March 14, will be "Winnet- ka Day" at the meeting of the Win- netka League of Women Voters. Miss Elizabeth Gemmell, the first president of the Winnetka league, will preside. | Mrs. John N. VanderVries, present president, will introduce as our special guests: Mrs. Eugene Sax of the U. S. Congregation Sisterhood; Mrs. Arthur Cushman of the Winnetka Woman's club; Mrs. H. Hartman of the Winnet- ka Parent-Teacher association; Mrs. Randolph Buck, of the Christ church guild; Mrs. W. J. Huddle, of the Con- gregational church Women's society; Mrs. W. F. Brown, of the Catholic Woman's league.; Mrs. Carrie B Prouty, of the Congregational church "Circles"; all of whom are represent- atives of our women's organizations in the village. Village Manager H. I. Woolhiser is to talk on "Qur Village Government." Chief of Police W. M. Peterson, will follow by discussing "Know Your Traf- fic Laws." An Interesting point will be brought up by Mrs. Carrie B. Prouty on "Our Growing Library." A statement will be made by Ar- thur. Bonnet and Henry T. Stanton for and against the "No Man's Land" is- sue. At this time a vote will be taken on a proposed amendment to the consti- tution, establishing a local affairs com- _ mittee. Women to Study Legislation at its Very Source March 29 and 30, a legislative citi- zenship school will be held in co-opera- tion with the Springfield Ill, Woman's club. Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock the school opens for a long and interesting day, during the course of which, such topics as "The Organization of the General Assembly," "Important Issues Before the 55th General Assembly" and "Legislation for Which the Lea- gue Is Asking," will be discussed. Wednesday morning will be spent in calling on representatives, and sena- tors and visiting the sessions of the Senate and House of Representatives. All women interested in this school are urged to communicate with Mrs. John N. VanderVries, president of the Winnetka League of Woman Voters, for further information. ATTEND THE CAUCUS! A fitting close to the "Winnetka Day" of the League of Women Vot- ers, to be held during the morning and afternoon of Monday, March 14, will be the Village Caucus, which is to convene in the evening of the same day at Community House. For those women who have here- tofore taken no part in politics, the best place in which to begin politic- ally is in their home community. Winnetka is your home and the officials who will govern Winnetka will be yours more fully if you have a share in their nomination. I urge every woman in Winnetka to attend the caucus! Mrs. John N. Vander Vries, President, Winnetka League of Women Voters. Talks of Village Manager H. L. Woolhiser Village will speak before the Winnetka League of Women Voters Monday, March 14, on the subject of "Our Village Gov- ernment." The talk is one of the fea- tures of a "Winnetka Day" program sponsored by the league. Urge Passage of "Women on Juries" Bill in Illinois Mrs. Walter Benson, chairman of the finance committee of the Winnetka League of Women Voters, and state treasurer of the Illinois League of Women Voters, was one of a dele- gation that went to Springfield, Tues- day, March 8, for the 'hearing of "The Women on Juries" bill. Mr. Castle, representative from this district, made a motion to put it out of the judiciary committee, the motion being carried by a 26 to 5 vote. Mr. Propper also voted for it, but the other representative was absent. It is to come before the House, Wednesday, and opposition is expected in the Senate. Thirty women from Chicago at- tended this meeting in Springfield. Judge Charles Thomson, of Winnetka, made the opening speech and Miss Esther Dunshee acted as general ad- viser and spokesman. Judge Mec- Goorty also was present. Mrs. Benson will give a talk on her trip at the monthly meeting of the Winnetka League of Women Voters, March 14, at Community House. Rev. C. E. Wolsted Suffers Break Down in South India Word has just been received to the effect that Rev. Clarence E. Wolsted, one of the foreign ministers of the Winnetka Congregational church, is ill. Mr. Wolsted had taken over the work of an associate, who had returned to this country on a furlough, and with this double burden, his health broke down. His physician has ad- vised several months' rest. He is im- proving steadily, but will probably not be able to resume his full work until the first of June. His address is care of The American Mission, Manama- dura, Ramnad District, South India. | World Citizenship | Conference Today at Congress Hotel Today, in the Florentine room of the Congress hotel, Chicago, a conference on "Education for World Citizenship" will be held under the auspices of the Chicago League of Women Voters, Forum and the Association for Peace | Education. The morning session, beginning at 10 o'clock, will be presided over by Charles B. Stillman, of Lane Technical High school. Subjects under discus- sion will be: "Geography and World Citizenship," by J. Paul Goode, professor of geog- raphy at the University of Chicago, and "The Construction of the Cur- riculum and Development of Interna- tional Understanding," by Prof. Har- old Rugg, Professor of education, at Teachers' college. During the afternoon, Mrs. Willa Lair, president of the Chicago League of Women Voters Forum, will pre- side, introducing Prof. H. A. Over- street, who will speak on "Building Up the International Mind." Mr. U. An- gell will follow, talking on "Why the Obvious Failures of Education?" Mr. Angell is a noted publicist and lec- turer. An open discussion will be held at both sessions of this enlightenifig con- ference. Mrs. R. S. Childs, of the Speakers' bureau, and Mrs. Mary B. Prouty will be the delegates from the Winnetka League of Women Voters. | Tells Traffic Facts Chief of Police W. M. Peterson has been invited by the League of Women Voters to give a lecture at its "Win- netka Day" meeting Monday on local traffic laws. The chief has, no doubt, explained these matters to individuals in the league upon occasion, but this time he promises to leave his "ticket" book at headquarters.
