March 19, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Horace Mann Sets April 6,7, to Sell Attractive Wares The Horace Mann school will have many different kinds of attractive ar- ticles on sale Wednesday and Thursday evenings, April 6 and 7, in the manual training room of the Skokie school. Village residents and school patrons are already planning to save that date when articles now being made are put on sale. Mrs. Anita Willits Burnham gener- ously gave last Monday afternoon for furnishing and decorating the things made by the group of mothers working under the leadership of Mrs. William Elliott of 650 Blackthorn road. - They have made bib and doily sets, triangu- lar porch pillows and gay bags of enamel cloth, covered match boxes, animal napkin rings for children, and sets of checked linen runners and doil- ies. The group at Mrs. Parker's has fin- ished three dozen waste baskets. There will be several magazine racks and book shelves. Mrs. Hobart Young is making English print aprons, and Mrs. Samuel Smart has taken charge of the leather work which is to be done with Miss Grace Herbst, who has ably and generously offered her advice and tech- nique and patterns. Besides these groups in homes there are mothers working with their chil- ||| dren after school in many of the | rooms, and the children themselves are | making bags, kitchen kits, book ends, ||| markers, || painted garden tools, and bean bags, bird houses, and boot jacks | for taking off muddy rubbers. Whitlock Duncan Hurt in Fall From Moving Train | Whitlock Duncan, age 10, residing | at 1314 Scott avenue, Hubbard Woods, | sustained a severe scalp wound Wed- nesday evening at 9:45 in alighting from a North Shore Electric train at Tower road station. He was hanging on the steps of a limited train which does not stop at Tower road. He jumped off and was thrown, his head striking a post. He was picked up and taken home by William Howard, where he was attended by Dr. Jay M.
