"Yes, no doubt about it," is the answer of the affirmative debating team, Gilchrist, Dauber and Heineman. "Certainly not, such action would be disastrous" re- ply the members of the negative, Rol- lin Simmonds, Yost and Burdge. Both teams are ready to support their statements with an impressive list of arguments and facts. The New Trier High school affirmative team is going to present its case in the New Trier auditorium at 7:30 o'clock to- night, aganist Proviso's negative team, while New Trier's negative team fights at Proviso. The outcome is hard to predict, since very little has been heard of the Proviso teams, but if they are of the same calibre as last year's team, an interesting and exciting en- counter is to be expected. Each debater is allowed a ten min- ute constructive speech and a five-min- ute rebuttal, with the exception of the last speaker, who is allowed a six- minute rebuttal. The time for rebuttal is somewhat longer than is customary in most high school debates. This ar- rangement has been made in order to facilitate as much refutation and ecx- temporaneous speaking as possible, for these factors really constitute the true test of debaters. The question of our policy in the Philippine Islands has been much de- bated recently although "the fighting sixty-ninth congress which recently went out of session failed to pass any of the proposed legislation on the mat- ter. The recent report of the Carmi- Thempson mission has acted as new oil on the fire of the arguments. A great deal of. secrecy has been kept about the speeches, and Mr. Mc- Lean, coach, declines to give any in- formation about the outline of the cases, or about the comparative strength of the affirmative and nega- tive side of the question. Frederick E. Clerk will probably act as chairman of the debate. Judges will be picked from a list of prominent at- torneys and Forensic instructors. PREACHER AT TWO SERVICES Rev. James Austin Richards will preach at both the morning and eve- ning services at the Winnetka Con- gregational church Sunday, March 20. His morning subject is "Thorough Re- ligion," and his evening subject, "The Originality of God." Have Your Shoes Rebuilt!
