Mr. Jones discussed "The Meaning of the Arts." He said among much of interest: "The artist is simply a man who by temperament tends to take an aesthe- tic view of certain realms. Whether he is a landscape painter or a psy- chological novelist, he is first of all interested in aesthetic experience. There have been a number of changes in lecture dates of the various people of importance engaged to give the spring lectures in this course. Zona Gale, prominent author, dramatist and educator, who was scheduled to speak next Wednesday, will not come until April 20. She will at that time discuss "The New Literature." The lecture Wednesday will be de- livered by C. J. Bulliet, art editor of the Art World magazine and dramatic critic of the Chicago Evening Post. He will discuss "The New Art." Karle- ton Hackett, eminent Chicago mu- sician and music critic, spoke March 23 instead of April 13, for which later date he was scheduled, and that date will be given to Charles E. Merriam, professor of political science and chair- man of the department of political science at the University of Chicago. April 27 the speaker will be Edward Sapir, associate professor of an- thropology and American Indian lan- guages, University of Chicago, his sub- ject, "The Background of Spiritual and Aesthetic Life." The lectures in May will be given in sequence by Shailer Mathews, Prof. Delton T. Howard, Prof. Richard T. Ely and Clarence Darrow, and the final lecture will be delivered June 1 by Prof. Brownell. BACK FROM VACATION Miss Grace Hemingway, a member of the faculty of the National Kinder- garten and Elementary college, re- turned this week from several months' vacation in Florida, and is making her home at the Orrington hotel.
