Some 35.1 per cent of Detroit's popu- lation own their own homes, and 44.9 per cent of the families in Detroit are home owners. The compilation shows that there are 157,432 roomers living in the city and that 55.1 per cent of the families rent flats, apartments or single homes. A large portion of the 157,432 roomers eventually become either renters or home owners. They are usually single young men and women or else men who have come to Detroit to work and will later | bring their families here. Phone Winn. 2103 Fuller Lane Scene of Home-Building Spurt This Spring Two of the ten building permits for residences issued in Winnetka during the month of March, were for Fuller lane, Winnetka, improvements, where the work is already under way. Thus this pretty and comparatively new east side street of a little more than a block in length, is rapidly filling up with charming homes. Throughout its length, from its entrance at Sheri- dan road near which the historical old Indian trail tree stands as an honored and historical landmark to its south exit into Winnetka avenue, on both sides, spendid new residences have sprung up within the past few years. There are comparatively few remain- ing vacant lots on this quiet, pretty street ,which is located only a stone's throw off Sheridan road. Foundations are now in and work will start before the close of the week on the super structures of the two residences for which building permits have just been issued. Edward Uhlmann, of Chicago, at 162 Fuller lane is building a ten-room English Colonial residence of brick veneer, which the general contractors, the L. A. Ashbeck company, of 133 West Washington street, Chicago, ex- pect to have ready for occupancy by October 1. The house is located on a lot 75 by 100 feet, with an east front- age, and will have three bath rooms, a two-car attached garage and slate roof. The cost, specified in the permit, is $27,000. The other new house on Fuller lane for which the foundation also is in, is located at No. 176, and is being built for Arthur Scott. It is to be a two story brick veneer with attached gar- age. The permit specifies $18,000 as the cost. Evanstonian Purchases Residence in Glencoe Charles W. McGuire, Jr. of 540 Sheridan road, Evanston, has pur- chased the solid brick residence at 926 Sheridan road, Glencoe, from Marcy C. Read. The house contains seven rooms and two baths and is situated on a nicely wooded lot 110x300. De- witt Stillman of Hokanson & Jenks, Inc., represented both the buyer and the seller. Vacant property in the Lincolnwood district on Colfax street between Ewing and Bennett facing the Forest Preserve, Northwest Evanston, has been sold by Scott M. Douglass and wife, Nan Douglass, to W. J. John- son, of the Johnson Chair company. The lot is 140x200. No price was dis- closed. Mr. Jenks of Hokanson & Jenks, Inc. represented both parties. SELL PETERS RESIDENCE W. G. Stacey and company, north shore real estate brokers, reports the sale, through its Wilmette office, of the Richard Peters residence at 1221 Lake avenue, Wilmette, to John W. Schmitz.
