Ave.,, Evanston Green. 1319 Red Cross Institute to Train in Life Saving To aid in reducing the number of deaths from drowning and other acci- dents, the Chicago Chapter of the Red Cross will again conduct its first aid and life saving institute at Lake Lawn, Lake Delavan, Wis., June 16-26. Normal courses for both men and women in life saving, boating, water- front protection, and coaching will again be offered. Life guards, Boy and Girl Scout leaders, councillors for summer camps, playground and re- creation workers from all parts of the middle west will learn from champion- ship swimmers and authorities on waterfront protection all the latest de- velopments in diving, swimming, boat- ing, and life saving organization. While instruction in water safety is the primary aim, a full standard and an advanced course in first aid will be given by qualified physicians at- tached to the Red Cross staff. Boy Scouts of the north shore troops are co-oper- ating in the distribution of literature, and are boosting the sales wherever possible. American Forest Week President Coolidge, Honorary Presi- dent of the Boy Scouts of America, has proclaimed the week of April 24 to 30 as the American Forest week. Scouts co-operate all over the nation in Fire prevention, and conservation work. Local troops are looking for- ward to the completion of their cabin in the Forest Preserve west of Glen- coe. Witness First Aid Meet D. C. Leach, Scout commissioner of Wilmette, will serve as an official, and other scout leaders will attend the big first aid meet to be held in Chicago on April 22. Troops are already pre- paring for the annual first aid Boy Scout meet to be held early next fall Several troops of Scouts are ar- ranging to have troop pictures taken soon. "Open House" will be held at the Scout Cabin west of Glencoe each Wednesday afternoon and evening throughout the summer. B. C. Draper, assistant Scout executive, will be in charge. The Camp Folders describing Camp Checaugua, one of the Owasippe camps in Michigan, have been distri- buted to the various troops. Scouts of the north shore troops will attend during the period from June 27 to July 9. In many cases Scout leaders will go to camp with their troops. The camp is in charge of Carl A. Bryan, and a strong staff of experienced campers. Enroll New Scouts Spring is the big season for new scouts to be enrolled. New members are being added weekly to the rolls of those troops that are not already full. New scouts added this week are Hubert Eitel and Charles Swan, Troop 32 of Highland Park.
