April 30, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 13 STUDENTS GIVE OPERA Country Day School Inaugurates New Auditorium With Presentation of Gil- bert and Sullivan Satire The first evening performance to inaugurate the new auditorium of the North Shore Country Day school, will be the Gilbert and Sullivan opera, "Patience," which will be played by the students of the school on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, at 8:15. The performance will also be given Thursday afternoon at 2:30. This is the fourth year that a Gilbert and Sullivan opera has been rendered by the school, the past annual perform- ances having included "The Pirates of Penzance," "The Gondoliers" and "Tolanthe." The opera to be given this year is considered the most humorous of all the works of these composers. The presentation of this opera is a project on which the entire Upper school has been working since the end of February. Seventy-five of the students are in the chorus and cast, and the rest of the school is making the scenery and costumes and printing the programs. There is a double cast for the three leading parts, "Bun- thorne," "Patience," and "Jane," all of whom will take part at one or more of the three performances. "Patience" has the sub-title "Bun- thone's Bride," and was first given in 1881 as a satire on the aesthetic move- ment of the last half of the century, of which Oscar Wilde was the leader. The girls in the opera are a chorus of "rapturous maidens" and the boys are "dragon guards." The yearly presentation of an opera is a big factor in the school curricu- lum and is always met with intense enthusiasm by the pupils, parents, faculty and friends. It is expected there will be a large attendance at the coming performances. E. Sinshimer on charges of con- | tributing to the delinquency of 10- year-old Benny Lancioni, and larceny. The small boy, police assert, was in- duced by Diebold to steal $20 from the Lancioni cash box, at home, and turn the money over to him. It was money, it is claimed, which Mrs. Lancioni"s brother was saving with which to buy a new suit of clothes. Diebold was arrested on April 12 by Sergeant Ed Cummings and Patrol- man Rhys Fuidge on a warrant issued on complaint of Giuseppe Lancioni, father of the 10-year-old Benny.
