M. Peter- son, which will be presented to the Village council at its next meeting. The report follows: "I have the honor to submit herewith | my annual report for the fiscal year commencing April 1, 1926, and ending March 31, 1927, showing the activities and work performed by the Department of Police for that period. "During the year just ended, 451; arrests were made, as compared with 971 for the previous year, or a de- crease of 520." Of the 451 arrests 34 were classed under the head of felony cases; 82 as misdemeanors and 335 were for viola- tion of the speed and traffic rules. The | report continues : "In the matter of burglaries, we have | MARINELLO | BEAUTY SHOP 733 Elm Street For Appointment Phone Winnetka 822 a been extremely fortunate, it being the best vear in my fourteen years at the head of this department. All were minor ones, which I attribute to local juvenile offenders. The system of close patrolling by our two squad cars has demonstrated its merit, as neighborinz communities have been hard hit by burglaries during the last year, while Winnetka has been comparatively free from such occurrences. Many Cars Recovered "The value: of stolen property re- covered was mostly in automobiles re- covered by this department. It totals $10,087.10 this year, as compared to $9,- 489.25 in the previous year, or an in- crease of $597.85. "The accidents are numbering up fast, especially those involving automo- biles, which shows an extremely rapid increase of 59 over the previous year. Two of these were fatalities, while there were none last year. There were twelve deaths caused by accidents, as compared to six during the previous year. At grade crossings which have always been our fatal places for acci- dents, there were two deaths. "Within our municipality, three auto- mobiles were stolen, and all of them were recovered. This department re- covered twelve cars all told, nine of them being cars stolen from other cities. "During the year the people have been more careful in locking up their store buildings and private residences, with a decrease shown in the number of homes and business places found open. "Disturbances also decreased during the year. "I want to call your attention to the beacon signal light with which we have been provided. The force, at all times of the night, is scattered throughout the village on individual posts, and quite often it is necessary to com- municate with and congregate the Hello!-- Surely....
