Li May 14, 1927 WINNETKA TALK MAY BUILD NEW GOLF CLUB NEAR EVANSTON Members of Former Northwest- ern Public Links Assn. Ask Charles Speed's Support Formation of a new private golf club to be composed largely of the member- ship of the Northwestern public links association is expected to be accom- plished in the near future, it was learned this week. Preliminary steps for the new club have already been taken, and if suf- | ficient persons can be interested in the proposition it is expected that final plans will be made soon. A starting | membership of between 300 and 400] persons is desired. A reasonable an- | nual fee will be charged, sufficient to | give each member an equity in the| club. Charles F. Speed, manager of the | Northwestern public links before it was | taken over by the county, is being | sought to organize and manage the | new club. Mr. Speed's capable man- | agement of the Northwestern course has caused members of the former or- ganization to seek his aid in forming the proposed club. Mr. Speed said that if sufficient per- sons desire the new club he would help to organize it. A location near Evans- ton has already been picked out and will be purchased as soon as the mem- bers are secured, it was said. The new club will be an addition to the already large number of golf clubs on the north shore. However, the crowded condition of the public courses indicates the need for more courses, and the addition of a new pri- vate club with reasonable rates is ex- pected to be welcomed by the large number of golf fans in this vicinity. In Tire Educational Meetings we were shown, by means of motion pictures, charts, tire samples and complete engineer- ing data, the details of Firestone tire design and construction--and how Fire- stone and Oldfield tires and tubes are made in the world's most efficient and economical rubber factories. Firestone pioneered the original low-pressure tire and made it practical by Gum-Dipping. The motion pictures showed us how the cords of the carcass. are dipped in a rubber solution, thoroughly saturating and insulating every | fiber of every cord with rubber. Simple demonstrations and tests illustrated the. great advantage of this process, which supplies the extra strength to withstand' the extra flexing strains of low-pressure construction--one of the reasons why. We learned why the Firestone Balloon Tread gives extra safety, comfort and long wear. We were shown why Firestone, from the very begin- ning, designed and continue to use the round Balloon Tread, minimizing "shoulder breaks", so' destructive to tires. Excess rubber at the edges of a Balloon Tread is wasted--actually detrimental to tire mileage. In the Firestone Tread the small units and sharp projections are scientifically placed to permit easy flexing, resulting in extraordinary riding comfort. Come in and let us put a set of these Gum-Dipped Tires on your car--you can forget about tire trouble. Quality is higher than ever before--prices are lowest in history. Buy now!
