Winn. 963 SPEAKS AT LEAGUE Judge Mary Bartelme Stresses Need of Personal Touch in Juvenile Court Cases Judge Mary Bartelme was the principal speaker at the annual luncheon of the North Shore Catholic Woman's league Tuesday. Judge Bartelme spoke of a number of the cases that have come up before her in the Juvenile court, and emphasized the great in- flence a little personal contact can have in such cases. The spiritual message is more important than any material one can be, she said, because these people believe that no one cares about them. She pleaded especially for the in- fleunce of the members in establishing of homes for the border-line cases, children who are not too bad, but who area menace. These children can usual- ly, with the right treatment, be made useful members of society. There are only two such homes now, and they are filled up, Judge Bartelme said. She also spoke of the need of the personal touch with children who have spent five or six years in an institution with- out having a single inquiry made about them. Besides Judge Bartelme's talk, short addresses were given by the guests oi honor: Mrs. William Farrell, president of the Tenth district, Mrs. Frank Oelerich, Mrs. R. H. McColl, Mrs. John Van- der Vries, Mrs. Maurice H. Lieber, and the Rev. Father Magner of the High- wood Catholic church. Mrs. Sydnie Smith Cooley, accom- panied by Beulah Taylor Porter, gave three groups of songs. Mrs. W. A. Kit- termaster made the presentation speech when the retiring president, Mrs. Wil- liami F. Brown, was given a pair of French candle-sticks. The new officers were inducted, and the president, Mrs. William Schildgen, spoke, and was presented with flowers. The league expects to send some rep- resentatives to the meeting of the State Federation, to be held in Danville be- ginning May 17.
