May 28, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Dick Hanley, N. U. Grid Coach, Ill With Appendicitis Dick Hanley, Northwestern's new football coach, took ill Tuesday with a chronic attack of appendicitis which confined him to his bed in the North Shore hotel. Dr. M. A. Hobart, uni- versity physician, went into consulta- tion with Dr. William A. Parkes and decided that Hanley should undergo an operation. Due to his desire to attend the foot- ball schedule-making conference at Madison today, Coach Hanley was re- luctant to submit to an operation until later. Dr. Hobart kept in constant attendance upon the patient with the purpose of operating if necessary. Coach Hanley has had frequent at- tacks of appendicitis in the past but none so severe as he suffered Tuesday. Acting upon the advice of his physi- cians he will submit to the operation at this time in order to eliminate any chance of taking ill during the foot- ball season.
