They'll ask him or he'll ask someone, and the result is that everybody plays. Westmoreland is a club for father, mother and the children and the social side is not forgotten by the desire of the members to bat the elusive pill around the course. Dinner-dances are held frequently and the season's open- ing always is a formal affair, a gala day for members and their families. Week- ly bridge parties for the women are held Saturday afternoons. Friday is ladies' day on the links, and they have the "right of way," so it behooves mere man to keep his distance. Westmoreland has been the scene of many notable golf events. The club staged the Western Open nine years ago, in 1921 the Western Amateur and in 1922 the Woman's Western. The club championships always develop keen competition. The present club champion is Frank M. Swirles. Mr. Swirles also was the champion of 1924. Mr. Swirles is a close to par player of whom there are several. A Fair Young Champion Miss Mercedes Bush is the woman's champion, which is something unique in golf championships. Miss Bush is a daughter of one of the members and scored her notable triumph over wives of members. She won the Junior girls' championship last year and is a very promising player. She has been club champion in other years too. It should also be mentioned here that golfing skill seems to run in the family for her father, Chester A. Bush, was club champion in 1920. There seems to be one regret at Westmoreland and that is that Mrs. J. W. Mrs. Douglas, having moved to Bar- rington, is now a member of the Bar- rington Hills Country club. When asked if any of the members compete in the big golf fixtures I was informed that the members prefer the precincts of their own club and seldom compete in outside events. Many Good Players "They haven't the time, with busi- ness and their own club to occupy their attention," I was told. I asked if there were many players who could be rated as really good performers. No less than three members have shot this hole in one, which qualifies them for membership in the "Hole in one club." C. B. Burt achieved the trick in a spring work- out this year. Lesperance, Club "Pro" Alfred Lesperance is the club pro- fessional. It is his second year at Westmoreland. Lesperance is not a tournament player. He finds plenty to keep him busy in the golf shop and in mstructing. The officers of the club are: presi- dent, H. C. Lutkin; vice-president, Arthur Croxson; treasurer, Hurd Comstock; secretary, John A. Manley; assistant secretary and treasurer, A. B. Collett. The club's year book gives the names of these women who take an important part in women's activities at the club: Mrs. H. I. Allen, general chairman; Mrs. Fred Burnaby, vice chairman; Mrs. W. H.
