oar Ye . a June 4, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 41 -- GLENCOE SETS PACE IN BUILDING GRANTS Veritable Boom of Construction Underway in Northernmost New Trier Suburb Sixty-nine building permits totaling over half a million dollars were issued in the villages of Glencoe, Winnetka and Wilmette during the month of | May, in which Glencoe has a substan- | tial lead, both in the number of per- | mits issued and in the total cost of im- | provements authorized. One of the outstanding points re-| vealed in the monthly statistics is the | large number of permits for residences in Glencoe, as compared with other | north shore villages, substantiating the | claims of that village to the possession | of the largest area of undeveloped choice building sites to be found along | the north shore. Also verifying the oft-repeated prediction heard of late, that Glencoe, because of this fact, is on the eve of a veritable "pbuilding boom." The total of the twenty-six per- mits issued in Glencoe was $271,320. The total for the twenty-four issued in Wilmette was $165,175. The total for the nineteen issued in Winnetka was $103,850. The grand total was $540,345. Fifteen of the twenty-six permits in Glencoe were for new residences, none of which are to cost under $14,000. The total cost of the fifteen ¥ being $260,000. Five of the permits were remodeling jobs, costing $7,220; five were for private garages, costing $2,- 700 and one was for an office to be year, as will be noted by the following record, by months, since that date. In January, the total was $173,400, of which $90,000 was for the new Christ- ian Science church. There were five permits for residences, totalling $65,000 also issued during that month. In February, the total was $95,600, of which $85,000 was for six new resi- dences. In March, permits were issued four residences, totalling $72,000, the grand total for that month being $76,980. In April, the total was $348,876, of which $210,000 was for the new church of the North Shore Congregation Israel, and $134,000 was for nine resi- dences. In the month of May, a year ago, eleven permits were issued in Glencoe, when the total valuation reached $263,950, of which $253,300 was for fouy residences, one alone, that of the Roth- for schild's costing $202.300. Ten Permits Total $156,000 Ten of the twenty-four permits is- sued in Wilmette during the month just ended, cost $156,000; four were for al- terations and repairs, costing $4,050 and ten were for private garages, costing $5,125. Only four of the nineteen permits issued in Winnetka during the past month were for residences, the cost of which was $67,000; one was for a pub- lic garage, costing $14400 and ten were for private garages, costing $8,450.
