The hearing was held at the council chamber of the village hall where there was a large attendance of citi- zens from that section of the village. The board of education was repre- sented by Edward S. Ballard and Superintendent Carlton W. Washburn. The present zoning ordinance does not permit the new building to be nearer than 30 feet to the sidewalk. The school board plans, in order to conserve as much playground space as possible, the erection of the four-room addition in a manner in which there would be only five to ten feet between the building and the sidewalk. Oppo- sition has been manifested. Plenty of Mumps in May According to Dr. Orvis There were 51 cases of mumps in Winnetka during May, according to the monthly report of Dr. H. A.
