June 25, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 11 PLAYFIELD CONTINUES TO DRAW BIG ENTRIES Tournaments Arranged for Cur- rent Season Promise Best Year in History of Course The two tournaments scheduled for the Skokie Playfield Golf course the past week maintained the record of at- tendance set at the opening events the preceding week. Interest in Playfield increases as the season advances, and before the long list of tournaments is completed it is expected the entries will have reached still greater record-breaking propor- tions. The last week-end tournament was a handicap event, played on Saturday and Sunday, in which low gross score was won by Fred Stoddard, with 67; Oscar Fossum, second, 71. First low net was won by Roy Nel- son, 73-7-66; Stanley Sherman, sec- ond, 75-9-66 and George Rettie, third, 72-12-66. There were eighty-four entries. On Sunday, alone, it is - estimated that more than 300 players were on the course, and more than 500 played at various times during both Saturday and Sunday. Women's Day, June 22 The women of Winnetka who an- nounced a tournament on every other Wednesday throughout the season, de- cided at the meeting this week to change the date from Wednesdays to Tuesdays, as will be noted in the sea- son's schedule -in another column. These tournaments will be at 10 o'clock in the morning. In the tournament this week five foursomes played the 18-hole Scotch foursomes, members of which were, Mrs. G. W. Andrews and Mrs. W. King, winners of the first prize; Mrs. George Perrigo and Mrs. D. W. Powell, second; Mrs. R. V. Robinson and Mrs. C. E. Johnson, third; Mrs. R. N. Puetz and Mrs. Z. Ray Feagans, fourth. The surprise prize was car- ried away by Mrs. Clarence W. Happ and Mrs. M. A. Nathan. The next Woman's tournament will be Tuesday, July 5, your favorite club, no handicap, three prizes. Qualifying Round June 25 and 26, (today and tomor- row), will be the qualifying round for the cup tournament, four classes; blind bogey. Sunday afternoon there will be a mixed two ball foursome; a mixed two ball foursome being played in which each man and woman play one ball, alternate shots. You are re- quested to register for this tourna- ment, whether you have a partner or not. In the event you have not, the committee will arrange for one to play with you. This will all be on handicap basis. Playfield Association Meets A meeting of the Playfield associa- tion will be held at Community House next Thursday evening, June 30, at 8:30 o'clock, it is announced by G. W. The annual membership fee in Play- field association is only $1.00 a year. Every person in Winnetka should be a member of it, it is pointed out, and thus aid in its activities. The dollar fee entitles one to play in all tourna- ments. The annual dues to Skokie Playfield Golf course are $18.00, which entitles one man and one lady member of his family to play on the course at any time. There are also two Junior mem- bership fees.
