STATISTICS show that THE chiggers around WINNETKA are larger and MORE active than the ORDINARY varieties--they FEEL like it, anyhow-- BUT we've got the GREATEST thing for CHIGGER relief that was EVER invented--it's our SKEETER-SKARE made FROM vegetable Oils, ACTUALLY more ANTISEPTIC than CARBOLIC acid, but DOESN'T smart or burn a BIT--apply it to a CHIGGER bite and the ITCHING stops promptly AND infection is avoided. LAY in a supply for your NEXT picnic, or keep some IN the house for emergency USE--it's great for MOSQUITO bites. The committee is making several in- novations in this year's program in- show has developed into a serious civic project rather than a spectacular flower display. The club I|is seriously trying to help raise horti- -ultural standards in its vicinity and to encourage the study of landscape architecture as applied to the small carden. The space that has hitherto been devoted to table arrangements will be given over to a competition for perfection in flowers, and the stage of the hall which has formerly been ar- ranged as a pleasant garden corner will be devoted to a serious architec- 'ural example of a terraced formal garden. The emphasis will be placed not on floral beauty, but on the pro- per principles of landscape gardening. There is no garden club in this part of the country working with a more serious purpose than the Wheaton club, and it is hoped there will be a large attendance of people who are interested. The evening was given over to an exhibition of the pictures by the well known artists, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Peyraud, who were the guests of honor. The pictures were hung on the walls of three of the largest of the rooms of the school which proved to be an ideal Setting and background for an art exhibition. There were twenty- five canvases of all sizes from the brush of Mr. Peyraud and eleven por- traits by Mrs. Peyraud. The subjects of Mr. Peyraud's pictures ranged from scenes irom the Skokie and Ravinia to those from Switzerland, where the artist recently spent over a year paint- ing near his former home at Gruyeres. One particularly beautiful canvas, "Sunset on the Alps," created great comment as did a large vivid autumn landscape from Ravinia. Mrs. Peyraud's portraits were done in her usual charming manner and represented portraiture in its modern phase; especialy in the home portraits of Mr. and Mrs George Miles in the sunny breakfast room of their Ravinia home and that of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hess in their music room, Mr. Hess with his cello and Mrs. Hess at the piano. The portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Miles was featured at the Sesqui-Cen- tennial. Other interesting portraits of Mrs. Peter Johanson, Miss Geraldine Kuehnstaedt and Mr. John Robertson were included in Mrs. Peyraud's dis- play. During the evening Mrs. Peyraud spoke very informally on pictures and some French songs were delightfuly sung hy Miss Esther Wood with Mrs. Nina Fitch Bailey at the piano. In the absence of President Ambler of the North Shore MacDowell so- ciety, the vice president, Mrs. Dwight C. Orcutt of Glencoe pre- sided at a short business meeting pre- ceding Mrs. Peyraud's talk and the annual election of officers for the coming season. There was an excel- lent attendance at this very delightful meeting. society for the very reasonable cost. ww COMPLETE 562 Lincoln Avenue Automobile Painting at Lower Prices n order to keep our shop busy during the dull period. . we are pleased to offer for a limited time, attractive prices on high grade painting.
