Ne a June 25, 1927 WINNETKA TALK NORTH SHORE LAUNDRY MODEL OF EFFICIENCY Winnetka Plant Declared by Ex- perts to Represent Very Best in Cleansing Industry The North Shore Laundry, 566 Chestnut street, Winnetka, living up to its slogan--"When better methods for doing your laundry are known, North Shore Laundry will use them"--has just installed another new washer, which they proclaim as the latest and most modern piece of machinery in the laundry industry, thereby keeping abreast with the leading laundries of the country. In fact, the equipment throughout, including the building itself, are the last word designed for this work, and it is this fact, and the painstaking ser- vice which the North Shore Laundry always seeks to give its patrons that has in a large measure been respon- sible for the business increase which it has enjoyed, according to Gustaf Nel- son, head of the North Shore Laundry. Business in the cash and carry service during the past year has increased 900 per cent, he explains. The reputation of Winnetka's North Shore Laundry regarding its modern equipment and business methods have extended far beyond the confines of the village and the north shore which it serves, and it enjoys the distinction of having frequent visits from people interested in the laundry business from all over the civilized world, even from Australia, to inspect the plant and its up-to-date methods. Spacious windows admit floods of sunlight which augments the general condition of immaculate cleanliness and sanitation featured here, while every inch of floor, ceiling and wall space is kept spotless. And in the handling of the clothes, the science of sanitation has here done its utmost to make the soiling of the most delicate fabrics utterly impossible. Explains Linen Cleansing One of the most interesting opera- tions in this model laundry is that by which household linens are taken care of. First, the goods are sorted and placed in individual, meshed bags, ac- cording to the processes they are to undergo in laundrying. From the sort- ing table each filled bag goes to the big washing machines where pure tal- low soap and pure sterilized water clean them thoroughly. Then the bags go to the centrifugal dryers and the ironing machines, after which the con- tents of the bags are neatly folded and made ready for delivery.
