LL ~ Trice July 2, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 11 Winnetka Trims Waukegan With 10 to 2 Score ent season, the local baseball team de- feated the Waukegan Colored team by a score of 10 to 2. This makes the second victory in a row for the locals, and the fifth win of the year. Although the score indicates an easy victory for the Winnetkans, the game was really hard fought, and for the first seven innings resulted in a pitch- ing duel between Aschenback, local twirling ace, and Cunningham, Wau- kegan Southpaw. The locals hopped to a one run ad- vantage in the first inning, by scoring two in their half while Waukegan scored but one. From this time until the seventh both sides waged an in- teresting battle, Waukegan managing to push the tying tally across the plate in the sixth inning. In the home half of the seventh the locals decided to put the finishing touches on Cunning- ham. Luchessi singled, Runnfeldt walked, and Aschenback singled one run across. Brown then lofted a high infield fly to the short stop, after much hesitancy as to who was to catch it the ball fell safely scoring two more runs. Again in the eighth the locals again rushed runs across pushing the total up to ten. Manager Flynn has booked two good games for the holidays. Northbrook will be met on the local diamond to- morrow. This game will settle a hot dispute for supremacy. Last year Northbrook managed to walk away with two close decisions. Their expec- tations are running high again this year, and this game will no doubt be one of the best games that will be play- ed at the Playfield this year. Tomor- row at three o'clock at the Playfield. On Monday the fourth of July, the local nine will travel to Glencoe to play a return game. Although the lo- cals were deteated in their last gagement with Glencoe, an entirely : | new team will face them at this time. In the best played game of the pres-| "Luke" Johnson the premier slugger of the Big Ten conference will be playing short stop for the locals, along with Mellick and Izard, other Northwestern baseball stars. This game will be run off in the morning, ten thirty, at the Glencoe diamond which is located on Green Bay road and Bluff street. This game will doubtless be the biggest game of the year, and a large number of local fans are expected to be up in Glencoe cheering for a Winnetka vic- tory. Sunday, July 3, at the Playfield at three o'clock, Winnetka will play Northbrook, and Monday, July 4, they will encounter Glencoe at 10:30 a. m. Chicago Motor Club Gives Helpful Hints About Tires With the touring season now at its heighth, the mechanical first aid de- partment of the Chicago Motor club issues a few timely hints on the care of tires. A large proportion of car owners consistently neglect their tires. It might be supposed that the makers of tires would with good reason re- joice in this fact. Instead, however, they have gone to some trouble and ex- pense through their organization, the Rubber Association of America, to put before the car owner correct informa- tion about their product and how to cet the longest possible life out of it. The Association points out that the chief factor in the life of any pneu- matic tire is the air contained within it. Under-inflation destroys more tires than any other one factor.
