Westland Brings Home the Bacon to Sunset Ridge Club Out at the Sunset Ridge Country club they're not waiting for the Fourth to touch off the fireworks. They start- ed celebrating last Saturday when Jack Westland stepped out and won the Chicago district amateur cham- pionship by a grand display of golf. Westland defeated Eldridge Robinson of Flossmoor, 3 and 2 at Olympia Fields in the 18 hole final. Westland was in great form and -achieved his triumph by playing to par most of the way, occasionally drop- ping a birdie. That freakish things happen in golf is indicated by the fact that Westland won all his matches in the tournament at the sixteenth green and by the same figures, 3 and 2. The new champion is only 22 years old. He graduated from a law school a year ago last June and came to Chicago last spring, from the far west, immediately joining Sunset Ridge. Though young, championships are nothing new to Westland. His golf exploits include the winning of the Washington state championship, the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate title, the Washington state amateur title four times in succession and the Seat- tle city championship. Miss Nita Earnshaw, daughter of the G. F. Earnshaws of 789 Bluff street, was graduated Friday from Wild- cliffe school, in Pennsylvania. She is going directly to Boston to stay with her grandmother, Mrs. A. B. Reed, un- til her parents go East later in the month. They are moving from Glencoe and plan to make their home in West Newton, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. George Shipman of 432 Warwick road left Kenilworth Friday, June 24, for their summer cot- tage at White Lake, Mich., where they will spend their vacation.
