Squad Fifteen letter men are expected to make a bid for a position on North- western university's grid squad this fall. Coach Dick Hanley who will make his first appearance in the Big + Ten this season, expects to fill the ma- jority of places on his team with this veteran material. However, he has hopes of several aspiring sophomores stepping into regular assignments. Coach Hanley anticipates his main problem as developing a pair of ends that will be able to perform creditably. Waldo Fisher, the lone regular varsity end will be back to take care of one assignment. Developing of tackles and centers will be another chief job up to the Purple mentor. Northwestern faces the toughest schedule in its history. The Purple opens with South Dakota on Oct. 1 and on the following Saturday meets Utah, one of the strongest teams in the West last fall. Then comes the strong Ohio State and Illinois games on successive Saturdays. After these tilts the Wildcats will buck up against the husky Missouri outfit. COACH RECUPERATES Coach Dick Hanley, Northwestern university's head football mentor, is recuperating from his recent appendi- citis operation by hunting and fishing in the wilds of Washington state. The rugged grid leader went to the west coast shortly after leaving the hospital. He plans to return to Evanston Aug. 1 where he will make plans for the sum- mer coaching school to be held here Aug. 17 to 27.
