a pwn i vm >» 3 vy July 23, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 23 Gondolas in River Part of Villa Venice's Charm Gondolas brought direct from Venice ply the Desplaines river amid the glim- mer of colored lights at "Villa Venice," a charming entertainment place on Mil- waukee avenue at the river. Among the oaks and willows along the river bank amid beautiful gardens, is located this Italian summer play | place, formerly "The House That Jack | Built," recently taken over by Albert Bouche, a Frenchman. Interior and exterior decorations have b e e n fashioned after the design of an Italian restaurant. Something of France, Rus- sia and Spain also pervades the place in exotic touches here and there, and the eight acres of landscaped beauty and buildings harbor artistic treasures of all nations. There are sunken gardens with marble fountains and statues, Venetian verandas banked with color- ful flowers and verdure, rambling hedges, curving walks, soft lights and arbors. Music echoes over the river. Within doors there is a gay blend of bright color with fantastic mural decor- ations, rich tapestries and marbles. The food is said to tempt the palate of the | gourmet, and the entertainment is original and delightful. Break Ground for New Club House at Glencoe Ground was broken Wednesday of this week for the new club house of the Glencoe Golf course. Attending the ceremonies were County Commis- sioner Oscar W. Schmidt of Wilmette, | and President Winfred D. Gerber of | Glencoe. A men's invitation tourna- | ment was a feature of the occasion. C. Colton Daughaday of 180 Chestnut | street entered the invitation golf tour- | nament held at Lake Geneva this week. He was gone for three days. Hayes, pres- ident of the Chicago Motor club, | makes a few timely suggestions to mo- | torists. | camping season Je careful of fire. A large percent- | age of the most costly forest fires can | be traced directly to careless campers | or smokers. When parking in forests or under trees, avoid spaces where | dead branches or pine cones may fall | and damage your car. Do not cover the hood of your car with canvas or | other material until it has had a chance | to cool. Otherwise it will sweat and | ruin the finish. Tourists should Jeave a clean camp ground behind them, | thereby reducing the restrictions being | placed on camping by owners of pri- | vate property. Scattered refuse and | broken laws are poor monuments for | the motorist and sportsman to leave | behind them, observes Mr. Hayes. Mrs. F. W.
