Coen annexed the title, by de- feating Walter Thomas of Elmora, N. J., in the finals for the Junior title by scores of 6--3, 2--6, 6--1, 6--3. In the semifinals Thomas downed the Chicago hope, Scott Rexinger, | 6--2, 6--3. Coen won out over Rich- ard Lusch of Los Angeles, 6--2, 6--1, in the semifinal match. favorite in Junior's was a swift, decisive as- cent to the throne. He played a bril- liant game throughout, outstanding and outplaying his opponents in al- most every skirmish. With the ex- ception of his second set, in which he went to pieces momentarily, he was too much for Thomas. Tilden Forges Ahead The state championships attracted a field of stars including the famous Big Bill Tilden. In the play in the major event which began on Monday Tilden and other stars managed to do the expected by forging to the front at midweek. On opening day Tilden who won the title two years ago but who didn't play last year won two matches defeating two youthful Chicagoans. His victims were Gordon Braudt, 6--0, 6--1, and Scott Rexing- 6--1, 6--0. Tilden kept jump ahead of the others on Tuesday by defeating Jack Harris, 6--2, 6--0.
