\y y August 13, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 37 JULY GOOD MONTH FOR ONE - A - DAY AVERAGE New Residences WILMETTE PERMIT LIST Winnetka Building Permit List for July Twenty-Five New Residences Lead Way in Bringing Grand Total Near $300,000 An analysis of the building permits issued in Wilmette during the month of July reveals one of the most inter- esting chapters, perhaps, that will be recorded during the present year. In volume, both as to numbers and valuation of the improvements, the records are gratifying indeed. Forty- four permits were issued during July, representing a total valuation of $298,315, and twenty-five of the forty- four permits were for new residences, representing an investment in build- ings alone, of $281,500. And, following right on the heels of the record $300,000 month of July, comes the first week in August with the splendid showing of five permits totalling $65,000, which includes the new $56,000 WiLMe™E LiFe building, on Central avenue across the alley west of the present location of the printing establishment. Remodeling Season In addition to the twenty-five July permits for new residences, nine were issued for remodeling residences, to- talling $12,500; nine for private gar- ages costing $3,315 and one for a pump house costing $1,080, in King's court, on Glenview road at the Glen- ayre station of the Skokie Valley Electric line. Another significant feature of the month's records, especially as per- tains to the twenty-five new resi- dences, is the fact that the list includes a large number west of Ridge road. Fourteen of these, all $14,000 homes, are being erected in Pine Crest sub- division, directly west of Ridge road, while another is for a new residence further out in King's court and still another in the United Realty's sub- division, all of which is forceful evi- dence of the actual beginning of the development of the vast new area annexed but a few months ago to the west of the village. 25 Residence Permits Permits for the twenty-five new residences were issued as follows: To B. J. Bruns, 514 Eighth street, $11,500. To H. J. Schwall, for a residence in the new west side area, $7,000. To J. D. Wilkin, brick veneer, 526 Central avenue, $12,000. D. Kollner, 226 Laurel avenue, $18 -- 000. Thomas S. Hodgson, brick veneer, 305 Eighteenth street, $10,000. Niels Buck and company, fourteen brick residences in Pine Crest sub- division, each costing $14,000, a total of $140,000. E. R. Bostrom, 312 Central Park avenue, $8,000. A. S. Clark, frame, 1312 Cleveland street, $12,000. Mrs. Emily Woods, 235 Central Totals $177,800; Aggregate $116,800. With five Sundays and one holiday in July, during which month the de- partment of Winnetka, presided over by Building Inspector A. B. Kreig, issued twenty-four building permits, an average of almost one each work- ing day of the month. The total val- uation of improvements thus author- ized was $177,800. Six permits were for residences, totalling $116,800; eight for remodel- ing jobs, costing $24,700; three for commercial buildings, totalling $32,000 and seven for private garages costing $4,300. Permits for buildings in the com- mercial area were for an addition to the Winnetka Dairy at 818 Oak street, costing $22,000; for the P. J. Peterson garage at 718-722 Elm street, costing $9,000 and to Henry Ilg, the florist, for another greenhouse at 845 Pine street, costing $1,000. Permits for residences were issued as follows: S. Wallsten, one and one-half story frame, on Provident avenue, $4,000. Charles L. Wachs, two story frame and brick veneer, 322 Woodland ave- nue, $21,000. 3 John Mills, two story brick and stone, 181 Sheridan road, $50,000. C. E. Hostettler, two story frame and brick veneer, 75 High street, $20,000. Mrs. Sadie Cowen, two story frame and brick veneer, 120 Bertling lane, $16,000. Allen E.
