Mario Chamlee will appear opposite her, singing the role of Rodolfo for the first time this season. Madame Bori, Mr. and Martinelli Mr. Danise will form the trio of lead- ing characters in "Manon Lescaut" when that opera is given again on Saturday night, and Madame Gall will repeat her success as Thais by sing- ing that role for the second time on Wednesday night. "The Tales of Hoffman" with Miss Mary Lewis again as Giulietta will be presented on Friday night, this time Mario Basiola being heard as Dappertuttu. "Afternoon of French Music" The week will formally begin Sun- day afternoon with another special feature--"An Afternoon of French Music'--during which, in addition to the Chicago = Symphony orchestra, under the direction of Eric DeLamar- ter, La Chorale Francaise de Chicago will be heard in a splendid program of French choral singing. Charles La Gourgue will conduct the chorale. Madame Yvonne Gall, who by reason of her splendid performance in "Thais" last Monday night completely won all who heard her, will have the title role, which will reveal still another phase of her versatility and will show her to advantage in a part which is purely dramatic in its vocalization. Giuseppe Danise will be heard as Scarpia, one of his most powerful roles, and Ed- ward Johnson will be cast as Cavara- dossi. Another of the season's high spots will be reached on Tuesday night, when "LaVida Breve," which made such an appeal when first presented at Ravinia last season that four per- formances of it had to be given to satisfy public demand, will be pre- sented. Madame ILucrezia Bori will, of course, be cast as Salud, the tragic little gypsy, a role in which this great singing actress not only has the op- portunity to characterize in her in- dividual and colorful fashion, but which she sings in her native Spanish tongue. It is doubtful whether in her entire repertoire Madame Bori has a part which is more intense in its dra- matic moments, or which makes greater demands both as to acting and singing.
