August 20, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Okean Loses in First Round With Wildcat Currency Okean's Fur Shop, 567-A Lincoln avenue, Winnetka, is patiently waiting for Miss Gertrude Sayer to call for a fur choker which she ordered several days ago and for which she paid with a check on the Winnetka Trust & Sav- ings Bank. Mr. Okean, however, says he is not expecting Miss Sayer to call, for the reason that the check which she gave him came back, marked, "No account," 'a term with a double meaning in this case, one being that Cameron W. Simms, whose name appears as drawer of the check has "no account" at the Winnetka Trust & Savings Bank and the other meaning is that the check is "no account." The check, for $75.00, was drawn in favor of Miss Gertrude Sayer who en- dorsed it and gave as her address, 1138 Prospect avenue, Lake Bluff. The fur piece she ordered came to $52.50. Mr. Okean took the check giving the young woman the balance, $22.50 in cash. She promised to return for the fur in two days. Mr. Okean says there is no such ad- dress in Lake Bluff nor has he been able to locate anyone by the name given as the drawer or payee of the check. He still has the fur, but is out $22.50, the cost of what he says is his first experience of this kind, after many long years in the fur business. The Economic club of Chicago with forty-five directors and officers was formed Thursday, August 11. It is headed by Lucius Teter, president of the Chicago Trust company. It is stated that the club will aid in the creation and expression of an enlight- ened public opinion on important economic and social questions. Among the north shore members are Benja- min F. Affleck and F. Edson White of Winnetka.
