August 20, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 11 Judge Finds Fire Hard on Trousers and Corned Beef When a fire broke out in the Prouty- Ward camp last week un at Toft's Point, Wis., where Judge and Richard Prouty of Winnetka and F. E. Ward, of Wil- mette, Judge Prouty's law partner, were seeking to establish new fishing records. Tudee Proutv proved himself the real hero of the hour. By his quickness and daring he placed all fish catching honors in the shade and came home, whither the news of his deed had preceded him, to enjoy the hearty congratulations of his friends. The camp equipment included a gas- oline stove, as do all well appointed camps of this nature. There was also an additional supply of gasoline in a large bottle near the stove, in fact, too near for safety, and when the cork of | the bottle in some manner came out, the gasoline was quickly ignited from | the fire in the stove and the camp was in grave danger of being completely destroyed. Dick Prouty hurled the flaming | gasoline bottle far out into the lake, but it remained for the Senior Mr. Prouty to stage the real demonstration of putting out a fire. He waded into the flames in veteran fire fichting fash- ion, kicking and hurling cludine the week's supply of corned beef which had heen stored too near the scene of the fire and afforded food for the flames and not the fishermen. At this stase of the fire, sers were in flames and when Dick and Mr. Ward suggested he follow the corned beef into the lake he remon- strated, stead.
