Dawson, former professor of French at Northwestern university, au- thor and world traveler, has arrived in Evanston to succeed the late William C. Levere as eminent supreme recorder of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Prof. Dawson has been a fraternity worker and writer for twelve years, Inter-fraternity leaders give him considerable credit for the re- peal of the anti-fraternity law in Mississippi. He is widely known as au- thor of "Henry Becque, sa vie et a son theater," which aroused one of the most stirring literary discussions in France for years, and he has been compared by Leon Daudet to George Meredith and Henry James. He has also written "Les Corbeaux," a popular French text book, and is about to publish a book on Spain. He is known, too, for his "Book of Gold" which contains the signatures of all the leading participants in the World war. Among the signatures are those of Marshall Foch, General Pershing, Clemenceau, Lloyd George, Louis Barthou, Venizelos, King Ferdinand and Queen Marie of Roumania. Prof. Dawson has refused $10,000 for this book. Prof. Dawson is known, also, for his work in the Little Theater movement, He is rated as co-authority with George Bernard Shaw and Gerard Hauptman. During the illness and since the death of Mr. Levere, the management of Sig- ma Alpha Epsilon has been directed by James E. Chapman, grand treasurer and veteran fraternity official. He has been assisted by Albert S. Balch, chap- ter inspector, and a corps of ten as- sistants. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon national offices were organized by Mr. Levere and were the first to be estab- lished by any college fraternity. Little Virginia Ellen Higgins, six year old niece of Mrs. Theodore Coyne, who is the guest of her aunt entertained twelve of her little friends at a croquet party on Wednesday, August 31, from 2 until 5. DICK HANLEY FACES HUGE TASK AT N. U. Wildcat Mentor Must Replace Baker and Johnson; Tough Schedule Adds to Job Football talk is already going the rounds and discussion is rife concern- ing the prospects of the Wildcats this fall. Coach Dick Hanley has a big job on his hands to attempt keeping the Purple at the top of the heap. Baker and Johnson, two All-Americans, will be hard men to replace. Aside from this problem, Northwestern faces one of the toughest schedules in the Big Ten. The line presents a number of prob- lems to Hanley who is a stickler for capable linemen. Rudy Schuler, the only remaining varsity tackle will play left tackle. Coach Hanley be- lieves that he will become a worthy successor to Bob Johnson. Arnold "Kit" Karsten, who played guard last year is to be shifted to a tackle. By moving Wyman from cen- ter to tackle, Hanley will have four more than ordinary good tackles. Justin Dart, a husky second year man, will hold down one guard job while John Hazen, a tackle last sea- son, will probably be shifted over to handle the other. The other guard material is not outstanding. Mickey Erickson, a newcomer, will make a strong bid for the center job. Walt Rosie, last year's regular center will be back. Other candidates are Frank Hall and Walter Prusait. Mrs. J. Milton Coulter of 1065 Chat- field road, gave a luncheon for eight Thursday for Mrs. Walter Bemis, who is leaving the village to live in Cali- fornia this winter. --O Mrs. Ray of Grand Rapids, Mich. is visiting her sister, Mrs. Frank Kran- ich of 985 Vine street.
